Arnoux, Agorsor, Veeder set for lotteries

The Cody Arnoux saga is hours away from reaching a resolution.

According to MLSSoccer.com (scroll down the link), Arnoux, the former Wake Forest star, Everton reserve and Vancouver Whitecaps Division 2 forward, has signed a contract with the league and will be allocated to a team through a weighted lottery Friday at 4:30 p.m.

He's not the only player going through the lottery process, though. Chris Agorsor, the 2008 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year who battled injury woes at the University of Virginia, and Korey Veeder, a United States U-20 right back who most recently played for Crystal Palace Baltimore, will have individual lotteries on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

San Jose is not included in any of the three lotteries after winning the lottery for University of California goalkeeper David Bingham about two weeks ago. Odds for the Arnoux lottery have not yet been disclosed by the league.

  1. if agorsor didnt get injured during his freshman campaign he would have been a GA signing in 1 of his 3 years without a doubt. no idea what hes been doing the last 2 years but i remember reading an article on uvas website saying he was trying his hand professionally? anyone know anything about this?

  2. Agorsor is a striker who was one of the top youth players in the country a few years ago. Veeder is a RB who plays with the U20 national team.
None of these dudes are established pros yet, but the potential is there for all of them.

  3. what position does Agorsor play?

None of these dudes seem particularly exciting, whats the deal with them? Am i missing out on something (FTR i know that Arnoux trained for a season with Everton)

  4. If Arnoux does not go directly to Vancouver via the lottery, there is a good chance that the team that wins him could trade him there given his D2 time there last season. Agorsor has been in the Philly camp all pre-season so he very well could land there via the lottery or a trade after the lottery. Veeder has no potential pre-destination so his lottery and future MLS team is a bit tougher to predict.

  5. I’m loving it — this league is getting more and more interesting. These kids are trying their luck at Europe, it isn’t working out, and they get a chance to resurface here.

    Why stop at 20 teams?

  6. I’m thinking Arnoux should have gone back for his sr. year at WF instead of going to Everton and then a Div 2 team. He could have done that any time.

  7. So am I going to be the first one to say the LAG will win the lottery for Arnoux bc of some conspiracy? Seriously though people, you wish you’re team was as good as ours so stop whining so much.

  8. Seems like some pretty solid talent to be keeping with the MLS. Though skeptical with the lottery, this can only be good for the league.

  9. That is the allocation order… it would have ZERO effect on there weighted lottery %….. Odds are the DCU will win 1 of these 3 lotteries..

  10. They’re two different things. Davies would be signed via DC having the #1 pick in the allocation order. Arnoux is going through a weighted lottery. One has no bearing on the other.

  11. It’s great to know people care about this things, we need to make our league stronger with good american players ready to be sold to the European market and to do that we’ll need to have a strong reserve league that includes a lot of home grown talent.

  12. Ives, what impact would DC possibly signing Davies today have on their position in this lottery?

I imagine they might announce their decision before these lotteries or is there anyway that they could hypothetically get both Davies and Arnoux today?

  13. Yes, The Don is omnipotent much as The Stern used to be.

For NY readers, wouldn’t it be nice if they put a bunch of ping-pong balls in the MLS lottery machine and let Yooooolaaaaaaaaaanda Vega!!!! announce the winners? I’d watch.

  14. So America is finally becoming what all the other great soccer countries are, fosterers of domestic talent. Like Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Portugal etc etc etc

Arnoux, Agorsor, Veeder, plus Soto and Dixon at HOU, Hot and Kassel at NYRB, Shanoskey and White at CDU, McBean at LAG, de La Fuente at CUSA, the kid in NE, etc

Plus the last 2 drafts, and the amount of european players returning, this league is really becoming a great place for American players.

  15. For Arnoux, all the participating clubs go in a hat and the Don picks until the Vancouver piece of paper is drawn. Then they’re declared the winners.

Not sure about Argorsor or Veeder but with one UVA and the other at CP Baltimore I’d imagine DC might get “lucky”.

  16. More than an individual team, I think this is just good for the league. Bringing back good prospects at a young age and strengthening the youth of the league and potentially the national team pool.

Hope the Union land Agorsor or pony up a trade to get him.
