It was a low-scoring afternoon in the UEFA Champions League, with a 90th-minute score from Mario Gomez acting as the only goal in Bayern Munich's 1-0 victory over Inter Milan. In the day's other match, Manchester United and Marseille battled to a scoreless draw in France.

The 1-0 defeat was the second in as many weeks for an Italian side in Champions League play at the San Siro, as defending champion Inter failed to hold serve against Bayern Munich in a rematch of last season's final. Inter looked likely to escape its home ground with a draw, but Gomez capitalized on a rebound of an Arjen Robben shot just before full time to give the Germans a lead and a massive away goal heading into the return leg.

The first half was end-to-end with Bayern's closest chance coming when Franck Ribery's header hit the crossbar in the 25th minute. The two teams meet again on March 15 in Munich.

The match highlights are after the jump:

MARSEILLE 0, MANCHESTER UNITED 0

Manchester United failed to get an away goal but remains in a decent position heading back to Old Trafford after a scoreless draw with Marseille.

The first half was relatively void of chances. Marseille's best opportunity came when United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar misjudged a corner kick and the ball nearly crossed the line without being touched by another player. But the Dutchman scrambled back in time to keep the match scoreless after 45 minutes.

United's attack didn't click until surprise lineup inclusion Darron Gibson was taken off in favor of Paul Scholes. But it was too little, too late, as the best United chance came when Dimitar Berbatov rifled a shot over the crossbar. The two teams meet again on March 15 in Manchester. Here are highlights from the match:

  1. Bayern plays great football. Gustavo is a huge addition and is much more creative than say Van Bommel who is now gone. Him and Schweinsteiger are pleasant to watch

They just need to find a CB

  2. Marseille made them look crappy. Well-played defensive game as most of these 1st legs have been. Though out-hustled in the 1st Leg, Man U has the advantage going home.

  3. uh… FSC kinda played the crappy ManUtd highlights over the Bayern-Intern highlights. Easy to confuse the Red Devils with a team that actually won today, I can understand that.
