Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Tim Howard and Everton will give it another go against Chelsea in the FA Cup after the two sides played two a 1-1 draw in their fourth-round matchup three weeks ago.

With a spot in the fifth round against Reading on the line, Howard will need to be at his best to shut down Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where Didier Drobga is expected to rejoin the starting lineup after being benched in favor of the cup-tied Fernando Torres against Fulham.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Manchester United will look to avoid an FA Cup upset for the ages when non-league Crawley Town visits Old Trafford, and Mainz and Bayern Munich do battle in an important Bundesliga match.

Jozy Altidore's Bursaspor is also in action, facing Gaziantepspor (9 a.m., untelevised). Altidore got his first start with the club last week and is looking to find the back of the net in his second match since going out on loan from Villarreal.

  3. just watched this on DVR. agreed that many officials would have called the penalty. so, howard was definitely lucky. however, having said that, i think it was a good non-call. and since ramires clearly dived, he deserved the yellow for simulation.

i’m really tired of players in those 1-on-1 situations just touching the ball to the side and trying to draw the penalty on the goalkeeper. ramires had no intention of trying to score a goal there. all he wanted to do was simulate a foul and draw the penalty. and i’m glad that at least one referee saw through the charade.

and no, i’m not being a timmy homer. i’ve said the same thing when rooney, eduardo, et al have pulled the same stunt. my two pesos
