Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

Players facing their former teams is nothing new. Facing a former team just days after forcing a highly-publicized and shocking transfer move is rare and provides the perfect ingredient for an already important Chelsea-Liverpool clash.

Fernando Torres is set to face Liverpool today at Stamford Bridge in a match sure to be an emotional and intense battle. Chelsea will be looking to close the gap on Manchester United, while Liverpool will try to hold onto its hopes of a European berth.

Chelsea-Liverpool is the most anticipated match of the day, but the best match of the day may be in Italy, where Inter Milan faces AS Roma.

  1. thank you sir. we’re a dying breed, let me tell you. cheapskates and as much credit bob kraft gets from the media for pushing big time friendlies in the US, he doesn’t spend a dime on the revs and it’s painful to go to. i feel like every other club has developed actual fans, not just the little youth soccer teams. very little atmosphere inside gillette, i’d honestly rather have them play at BU or another school inside Boston.

  2. Good game…I’m a neutral but didn’t see Torres do that much. Anelka looked sharper and had more shots -close – to target than Torres.

But yeah in hindsight bad move by Ancelloti.

Folks clamoring for Suarez to come on don’t look so brilliant either since Meireles scored the goal with some skill…

Anyway it was cleat Liverpool wanted the game more/fought harder than Chelsea, didn’t see quite the urgency from the Chelsea players.

And finally on replay it was clear Johnson got away with one, definitely should have been penalty in 91st minute for leveling Ivanovic in the box…

  3. well I will say that Benitez always played him as a solo striker especially in the 2nd and 3rd seasons despite he being injured. And he’d be rushed too early back from injuries even for pointless cup games against lower competition. If only they had gotten a Agbonlahor or even Andy Carroll type for say 09-10, Torres injury woes would have been lessened.

  4. And that’s 90. Well deserved win for Liverpool.

Ancelloti is an idiot. You don’t spend $50 million on a player, have him actually put in a good performance when the rest of your team can’t get their act together, and then take him off early. But, oh well. Torres is not my problem anymore.

    Reds!!!!!!! YNWA.

  5. I think the ATDHE.net guys got in trouble. My brouser pulled up ICE – homeland security investigations when I went to the site.

Interesting. Any other good streaming sites? At a loss right now.

  6. Yeah, maybe. Chelsea is just looking out of form in general today, which is odd, considering how huge this game is for them.

They showed a close up of Torres on the bench after the LFC goal. The guy just looked lost and confused.

  7. Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Not a good game for the Chelsea midfield.

And hah, considering the pricetag on the guy, I hope that Ancelloti really likes Torres. Or else this whole situation could end up being interesting.

  8. the only thing i can think of is that he went for chemistry over people playing well..

    but it makes no sense!!!

torres was not only playing better but he had the drive and want to win this game

  9. I’m guessing Torres is taking the blame for how badly Anelka + the Chelsea midfield has been.

That, or he does not like Torres.

  10. Torres is booed off the field, Meireles scores. REDS!!!!

(But really, why did Ancelloti take Torres off? He was certainly playing better than a lot of his other players.)
