International friendlies dominate the mid-week soccer slate, as France-Brazil and Germany-Italy are just two of a number of intriguing matchups taking place on Wednesday.

Perhaps no match is more intriguing than the Argentina-Portugal one, though. It will feature Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have scored 24 goals apiece in league play for Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively, as they take their individual rivalry to the international stage for the first time.

  1. To Ives since i don’t have twitter. Messi was better no doubt, but everything HAS to go through Messi, Argentina is far more dependent on him then Portugal is in C. Ronaldo. Paulo Bento also seemed to treat the game for more like a friendly by trying new subs and such, in contrast to Argentina who kept on many of their best players on for longer.

  2. i’m not listening, but i assume you are talking about Ray Hudson…who, by the way, is the man! Despite his obsession with Barca/Messi. But he is hilarious.

  3. England currently has the likes of

Rooney, Defoe, Bent, Crouch, Cole, Agbonlahor, Carroll, Sturridge and others

I can’t see Crouch making the squad for euro2012 and Cole doesn’t have any shot. Bent however does with his goal-scoring prowess. Rooney will continue to make it. Agbonlahor has a chance but may lose it when Sturridge is shown to be his superior. Carroll probably will start alongside Rooney in the attack. Defoe has certain qualities though is old compared to the rest

  4. England has a scary attack with Bent, Sturridge, Carroll

I know they were stacked last cycle and didn’t do anything but i would give anything to have one of those guys, especially sturridge, kid is a finisher

  5. Brazil down to 10 men after a Brazilian player saw a straight red for going studs up into Benzema’s upper chest.

    Reminiscent of De Jong.

  6. Miereles with a wonderful out wide to Nani. Nani puts in a beauty of a cross to Almeida. Almeida with a peach of a flick on and Ronaldo in the right place to knock it in.

  7. Poor Rossi. Easily the best scoring striker for Italy, based on form. Plus he plays in a better league and still rides the pine.

  8. Is anybody watching the Netherlands vs. Austria game?? I don’t to change it from the England/Denmark game but I’m intrigued by the prospect of watching the Dutch play good football.
