The United States U-17s opened their run to Mexico in a big way with a 3-1 victory over Cuba on Monday in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Andrew Oliver earned a goal and an assist in the convincing victory.
Alfred Koroma opened the scoring for the U.S. before it took command with goals by Oliver and Esteban Rodriguez. Cuba was able to get on the board thanks to a goal from Dairon Perez. The U.S. squad's lone professional player, Jack McBean of the Los Angeles Galaxy, played the final 17 minutes in the victory.
The United States concludes group play on Friday against Panama. With a victory, the United States would go on to face the second place team from Group A (which includes Costa Rica, Haiti and El Salvador) in the quarterfinals for a berth in the U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
