Philadelphia is known as the city of Brotherly love so perhaps it is fitting that the Philadelphia Union now has its first pair of brothers on the team.
The Union has completed the signing of midfielder Gabriel Farfan, twin brother of Union draft pick Michael Farfan, sources told SBI on Thursday.
Farfan joins the Union via free transfer from Mexican side Club America, where he spent the past two years on the books. A former member of the U.S. Under-17 national team, Farfan has been used as a left back while part of the Union's training camp squad, and is expected to push incumbent left back Jordan Harvey for the starting role.
What do you think of this signing? Still waiting for Philadelphia to introduce some defenders? Like the Union's chances of having a playoff team this year?

Too bad there isn’t a player with the last name “Farfalle.” 😉
And, someone should get the long-lost Farfan brother, Jefferson (Schalke).
+1
Say what you will about Harvey, but he and Mapp pretty much shut down the right side of the Red Bull attack at PPL last season. I think Nowak saw something there and that may be why Harvey is still here.
Loved watching the Farfan brothers when they played for Cal State Fullerton the first two years of their college careers. They pulled out all kinds of dribbling moves, skills and tricks during the run of play. Glad they both made it to the MLS. Hopefully they stick.
Hackworth knows these all these young recruits and they are talented…he recruited them when they were U17 nats and he knows their capabilities well….for the most part U.S. fans were critical of Hack as a youth Nat. coach…but the guy knows what he is doing and these kids will produce….Sheanon Williams is a great example.
The Farfan brothers are twins.
Great news for the Union. Harvey is terrible.
Competition for Harvey can only be a good thing. He is decent when defending, but gets caught up the pitch and gives the ball away too often when he tries to get involved in the attack.
On a related note, I love Sheanon Williams but we could sure use some cover at right back too…
thank you for restating the article
Sounds like more fairly young talent coming to MLS. Good for the league and good for Philly.
Philly signs Farfan and the Rapids sign Folan. Now we need someone to sign Forlan…
Union needed some depth in the back. Maybe Farfan will push Harvey a bit.
Harvey is not a terrible defender, but he was decidedly NOT solid in the latter part of the 2010 season. During home matches I could see the looks of frustration on his teammates’ faces as he gave up the ball again and again. And I could also see them pass over Harvey when he was open to receive a pass; it sure looked like a snub from the stands. Word is he has had a strong preseason, but we won’t really know what to expect from him until we see him in action. At any rate, competition is a very good thing in the Union back, and depth too!
Harvey blows…This is a nice move
Disagree with Harvey being pretty solid, but do feel he’s a better option than an inexperienced convert. Like this move for depth. I love twins!
I like it but I think harvey has been pretty solid on the back left. Always good to have options though
