Now that he's finally on the scoreboard, L.A. Galaxy forward Chad Barrett is hoping for brighter days in Los Angeles.

Barrett tallied his first goal in a Galaxy uniform during last Sunday's victory against the Chicago Fire. After starting several matches at the beginning of the season, Barrett has been resigned to the bench with Argentine Miguel Lopez taking his slot alongside Juan Pablo Angel.  With his first goal, Barrett is hoping that he can regain his spot in the Galaxy first XI.

"There's been a lot of changes up top so far this, so hopefully I can find my consistancy this year," said Barrett. "[The match against Chicago] showed just how much depth that we have and just how difficult it is to hold down a starting spot on this team."

More news from around the Western Conference is after the jump:

CHIVAS USA

Ghanaian Defender Seth Owusu underwent knee surgery on Monday and is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks. The injury is only one of several for the Rojiblancos, who are still battling with concussion injuries to Mike Lahoud and Jimmy Conrad as well as a calf strain injury to midfielder Paulo Nagamura.

COLORADO RAPIDS

The Rapids have enjoyed a fine season as they look to repeat, and it appears that forward Caleb Folan is reeping those benefits as members of the Ireland national team staff admit that he has played his way back on their radar.

FC DALLAS

While FC Dallas hasn't had the best start to the season, their U-18s are flying high. The FC Dallas U-18s topped their group at the Dallas Cup with a victory over the Japanese U-18 national team on Wednesday. FCD homegrown signings Bryan Leyva and Jonathan Top scored to lead the winning effort. The FC Dallas U-18s will now move to the semifinals where they will face the Tigres U-18s on Friday at Pizza Hut Park.

PORTLAND TIMBERS

We know that the Portland Timbers can score at home, but now they'll travel to the Home Depot Center to face the LA Galaxy on Saturday to try and extend their three game unbeaten streak. Head Coach John Spencer says that his team will approach this match in the same fashion as their matches in Portland, "We've got to prepare the same way mentally and physically," Spencer told the Oregonian. "I don't think we can treat anybody with disrespect or give any team too much respect."

100 members of the Timbers Army will descend on the Home Depot Center this weekend for their match with the Galaxy.

REAL SALT LAKE

The news has been pretty positive from Salt Lake City for the last few weeks especially in light of Wednesday's draw in the Champions League final in Monterrey, Mexico. That positivity stretches to the stands of the Estadio Technologico, where fans of RSL and Los Rayados participated in a time honored soccer tradition.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

The Earthquakes were victorious in a scrimmage on Wednesday against Stanford University with Anthony Ampaipitakwong scoring the goal for San Jose in the 1-0 result.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS

The Sounders take on Colorado this weekend in a key Western Conference clash. In that match, the Sounders will be visiting two players that they sent away in the offseason in Sanna Nyassi and Tyrone Marshall.

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS

The Vancouver Whitecaps may just be an expansion side, but they already have one of the fiercest attacks in MLS. One man who has helped the Whitecaps create that attack has been Brazilian forward Camilo. The young Brazilian, who has scored three goals for the 'Caps so far has hopes of playing for Vancouver for a long time.

  1. One goal and Bad Chad wants to be a starter? He was invisible the rest of the game. Even Alan Gordon gets one after so many chances.

I’ll take Lopez and Angel over him forever.

  2. If those are the only mistakes you found in this posting, you need to look again.

I hate all the typos, but you just have to accept it as part of “modern” journalism.

I’m an English teacher, so I cringe when I see “Barrett tallied his first goal in a Galaxy uniform on last Sunday’s victory against the Chicago Fire.”

Since when do you score a goal ON a victory.

    It is what it is.

  4. Saw the Timbers defeat FCD last weekend in Portland. It was the most incredible atmosphere I’ve ever experienced in American soccer. Too bad I’ll be rooting against them in LA on Saturday.
