Fantasy MLS: Week 12

Week 11 in MFLS was a low-scoring one unless you happened to load up on Seattle and Portland defenders and goalkeepers. Aside from them, fantasy points were hard to come by.

The proof is in the results — the leading point scorers for last week were Jeff Parke, Eric Brunner, Troy Perkins and Kasey Keller, who each posted seven points.

Don't expect a repeat performance in Week 12. With six teams having two matches apiece and some tantalizing matchups on the schedule, this week provides an opportunity to make up for lost points.

Here are a few more items to consider before setting your fantasy lineup this week:

MULTIPLE GAMES

New York, Colorado, Seattle, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Houston all have two games this week. Considering the matchups, the Red Bulls and Galaxy are the better bets for fantasy success.

FANTASY MLS WEEK 12 BEST XI

GK – Donovan Ricketts, LA – The defense in front of him is one of the best in the league which makes his job a little easier. The Jamaican keeper has two opportunities this week to post a shutout.

D – Geoff Cameron, HOU – Midfielder listed as a defender in MFLS. He has two chances to get on the score sheet this week and I wouldn’t leave him off your lineup despite a game at Los Angeles.

D – Omar Gonzalez, LA – Has been known to get on the end of set pieces for the Galaxy and he has two games this week to do so. Also, there is a good chance LA will get a shutout in at least one of those games.

D – Tim Ream, NY – Has put in a consistent 90 minutes for New York ever since he started his professional career. He will have a good chance of getting shut out points at home vs. Colorado or on the road vs. Vancouver.

M – Landon Donovan, LA – Donovan has become a player that you cannot leave off your fantasy team, until the Gold Cup starts, anyway. He has two games this week and should be able to put up another great fantasy week.

M – Kalif Alhassan, POR – The Timbers are at home against D.C. United, and Alhassan has thrived as a set-up man, notching five assists on the campaign thus far.

M – Jamie Smith, COL – His first game at New York is not very favorable; however, he should be able to make up for potential negative fantasy points with his second game at home vs. Kansas City.

M – Marco Pappa, CHI – Pappa is the spark for the Chicago offense and look for him to add to his four goals and two assists this week with a home game vs. San Jose before he departs for international Gold Cup duty with Guatemala.

F – Juan Pablo Angel, LA – Has not been in the best form for Los Angeles this season, but look for him to have very good opportunities to score in his two games this week.

F – Theirry Henry, NY – All doubts about Henry’s commitment to New York are gone after the scoring run he has been on in the past few weeks. He is in great form, returned to full training after sitting out last week and has two games this week to get on the score sheet.

F – Conor Casey, COL – Casey's return from injury is a boost to the Rapids, who have a tough match with New York before returning home to face a vulnerable Sporting Kansas City side.

INJURY WATCH

Omar Bravo is back in the Sporting Kansas City lineup after recovering from his sports hernia. Use him at your own peril, though, as SKC hasn't been a boon for fantasy owners recently. The deadline for Week 12 is Wedensday at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to change your lineups by then.

  1. @ Brian, I’ve heard that US camp starts after this week’s games. Not sure about other countries.

You’ve got Casey in your best XI, but the updated injury report still has him as only probable for Wed’s game. I’m somewhat leery of starting him when Montero and Henry are also on my fantasy team and also have doubles this week, though I could go to a 3 forward formation. What do you guys think?

  2. Will the MLS players that got called up to the Gold Cup still be available for matches this weekend (I got Landon, Agudelo, Ream, Wondo and Will Johnson).
