The World Football Challenge continues to grow.

Just days after announcing a friendly with Real Madrid as part of the WFC, the Los Angeles Galaxy announced it will host Manchester City at the Home Depot Center as part of the tournament on July 24.

Manchester City just clinched a place in next year's UEFA Champions League and is in this month's FA Cup final. Six days prior to playing the Galaxy, the Citizens will face the Vancouver Whitecaps as part of the WFC at Empire Field.

The game at the HDC joins a growing list of European team-MLS team matchups that will take place in North America this summer.

What do you think about the match? Wish Dema Kovalenko would unretire so he could face off with Nigel De Jong? Will you attend the game?

  1. The Madrid game was put in the Coliseum so they can sell a few thousand more tickets…”Let’s put the the game in South Central so we can make a little more money” Sounds awfully familiar to Jerry Jones and the Super Bowl…

  2. You are not MLS faithful…Go to the game and support your team and league or else the stadium will be filled with Eurosnobs!

  3. I don’t understand what the WFC is? Is it just a random collection of friendlies that are being promoted by the same organization? Because if its some kind of competition like its name indicates I sure don’t get the rules…

  4. How about lets bring Kovalenko back for one special appearance against DeJong. Let City know it’ll be two legs for a leg, an arm and a head for an eye, etc.

    I’ll be there.

  5. We’re talking about the kind of star power that would bring out the number of people needed to fill a large venue not the number that normally go to a Galaxy game.

  6. First off, I am a little interested in seeing Man City live against the Galaxy. Plus, I for one am happy that the game is being played at the HDC and not the Rose Bowl or the Coliseum. The Coliseum is a horrible stadium to see a soccer match. The first row of seats are so far away from the pitch. Also, if you must know the Real Madrid match is not included in the season ticket packages, though season ticket holders do get first dibs. I doubt I will attend because I hate the Coliseum and we recently saw the team two years ago play the Galaxy at the Rose Bowl with practically the same squad! I do hope that De Jong is on his best behavior, otherwise I will literally jump from my season seats and beat the crap out of the guy if he hurts one of our players! I doubt Tevez will even attend whether he is on the squad or dealt away in the summer transfer window!

  7. I wish Dema Kovalenko would unretire for this one and do his best Liu Kang impersonation on De Jong.

  9. Does it really convert Eurosnobs into MLS faithful? Does that happen when MLS teams beat pre-season euro teams and eurosnobs blow it off as such? Or when preseason euro squads beat MLS reserve sides and eurosnobs crow about it?

I do see some benefit though. MLS teams presumably make money off it, and I make a little unexpected money when I sell my season ticket for those games.

  10. I love the friendly period in MLS. I know fans dislike it, but I like to see our teams play the big boys. (and the USL guys play the small boys)

As much as we hate it, it does convert some Eurosnobs into MLS faithful.

  11. Why do we even have a league? We could just play friendlies all season long against European and South American clubs. More people turn out for those anyway.

  12. City actually has to get some star power first. Tevez is a world star but he might not even be there, and I doubt the casual fan has heard of anyone else from City. Maybe Silva, but he doesn’t even start for Spain anymore…

  13. I imagine it’s because Man City isn’t such a huge draw that it’ll be a guarantee to fill a large venue. Not to mention, the game is being included in season ticket packages.

  14. I dont want LD or any other USMNTer near De Jong. Or even better, maybe someone channels all the hate and bad vibes from all the broken legs and pays that b****** back.
