Manchester City vs. Tottenham: Your Running Commentary

For a second consecutive season, Manchester City and Tottenham play in a late-season match with big implications (Fox Soccer Channel, 2:45 p.m.).

Last season it was Tottenham that defeated Manchester City to clinch a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history. With a repeat result, Spurs would leapfrog Liverpool into fifth place and be in pole position to at least secure a place in the UEFA Europa League.

For Manchester City, a win would clinch a place in the Champions League, as the Citizens would be seven points clear of fifth place with two matches remaining. City will have to do so without Carlos Tevez, at least to start, as he's been named to the bench. Edin Dzeko will start in his place, while Carlo Cudicini replaces much-maligned goalkeeper Huerelho Gomes in the starting XI for Tottenham.

If you will be watching today's match, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.

  1. I don’t care if a hummingbird flew out of the sky to put the ball into the net, the Citizens are playing in the Champions League next year.

  2. Don’t worry, I’m sure they are going to buy at least two strikers and two midfielders for whatever ridiculous price. The funny thing about City is they are targeting Ibra and Fabregas since they can now offer CL football. Both players are already playing for CL teams, so City are basically saying, hey, why not be greedy and get paid a shitload more money than your already ridiculous wages to play for us. Luckily for them Tevez will probably go. I can only imagine how much money they are going to drop and how many player issues they are going to have. It’s going to be awesome…

  3. Haha it’s funny that with all of City’s ridiculous offensive talent, they have to rely on an OG to get into the Champ league.

Mancini and his 3 DM, boring-a$$ soccer has to go.

  4. Champions League! I don’t care how we got there as long as we’re there.

Yaya, Silva, Johnson, Tevez all worth every penny!

Now that we completed step one, lets close out a perfect week with the FA Cup title on Saturday.

  5. Also surprised but when I thought about it I didn’t pay any attention to this game because:
    1) I hate City and all that they stand for. It’s one thing to spend boat loads of cash in the transfer market but another when they seemingly buy players for fun with no concept of value or how they will fit into the team
    2) I’m not a Spurs fan and everything related to Harry Redknapp just gets under my skin. Good for Spurs and their fans for what they did in the Champions league this year but don’t go around now acting like you’re now the chosen ones of the Prem. Hopefully Liverpool can keep that Euro spot and keep them out of Europe next season, thus bringing them and their fans down a peg to where they belong.

  6. I think City might settle for another tight scrappy affair with chances at a premium. The loss of Carlos Tevez to injury has somewhat hurt City’s attacking prowess and Edin Dzeko hasnt quite found his feet in the Premier League yet. With Ya Ya Toure the man carrying city recently I think they might struggle in front of goal tonight. With Adam Johnson and James Milner City do have creativity on the wings but they lack a front man to put away the chances.
