Must-See Smack Talk: Houston Dynamo vs. FC Dallas

DynamoBillboard

The Houston Dynamo planted its flag in Dallas a couple of weeks ago with the above billboard to build the hype for this weekend's match against Texas rival FC Dallas.

The Red Stripes started their response by flying a "Dallas Til I Die" banner over Houston's Robertson Stadium, and now and their fans have gotten into the act.

Check out this video that FC Dallas released just a couple of days before the teams meet this weekend in Houston:

What do you think of the war of words between the two clubs? Who do you see winning this weekend?

  1. It’s true that Dynamo fans are envious of the rivalry between Seattle and Portland, but our lack of a comparable rivalry is really not our fault – FC Dallas has been totally inept against the Dynamo until last year. It’s not really a rivalry if it’s too one sided.

Lately, the most authentic rival for the Dynamo is CF Pachuca.

We’ll see on Saturday if FCD is a true rival as they aspire to be or if last year was a statistical outlier.

  2. At least Houston can sell tickets…who the hell goes to Frisco to see FCD? and in terms of cities…they both blow.

  3. In the 4 years (+ or -) Golden Balls has been with the Galaxy, I think he has played against the Dynamo less than 1/3 the games. I think he’s afraid of Dynamo and too much of a wimp to play in Houston.

  4. agree again. If you aren’t going to be somewhat witty in your hate of a rival, don’t bother. Houston does suck, but what does FCD have to do with Dallas? PHP isn’t even in Dallas county. It’d be more accurate to call them FC Oklahoma. And for Houston’s billboard, 2 times 0 is zero, so they aren’t two times better in terms of championships, they’re infinitely better.

  5. Look, we’re all MLS Fans here. We should put aside all this stupid intra-state hatred and focus on what really matters…

    Hating Seattle.

Seriously, you guys didn’t invent soccer or the MLS, now quit acting like it.

  6. No, the most insanely idiotic thing said for an MLS team was “Forza Wiz” from the old KC, Sporting team. By far the most idiotic said to date since I’m sure TFC fans will raise that bar soon.

  7. Shorthanded? Didn’t LA have 11 men on the field for the entire game?

You must be very proud of that bogus PK awarded to LA at the end of the first half. LA could have played 900 minutes and not have scored a single goal in the run of play.

See you in October at Robertson Stadium. Don’t forget to bring that washed up English player with you this time.

  8. If “beaten” means “lost on a really questionable penalty for handling” then I suppose they were beaten.

Shorthanded would generally mean someone was sent off in football terms btw, you might consider reprhasing that 🙂

  9. Yeah, Houston chicks are ugly – Not!

    Shannon Elizabeth
    Alana Stewart and
Hannah Storm, just to mention a few.

  10. Houston sucks. They were beaten by a short handed, ugly LA team last night. That said, the Dallas fans in the video sound like they escaped from a short bus on the way home from special ed.

  11. There were a couple of points made that were spot on.

    #1 Houston chicks are ugly.

    #2 Houston bought their championships.

#3 Houston is the armpit of Texas.

That being said, Texas is the armpit of America so #WeHateYouBoth.

  12. The bill board was must see for me. That is hilarious and a quick view. I’m guessing that is what sbi meant and not the pukey video.

  13. Eeeewwww that video made me want to puke. Had to stop 30 secs in. Gross. I agree with above posters, hate is tasteless and is too strong of a word to be used here. Good overall idea, but tasteless implementation.

  14. “We all hate Houston because if we wanted to be ninja turles that’s where we would live…in the sewer!”

    A rivalry is born.

  15. As a publicity stunt – to try to bring attention to the league to people in either city who might not otherwise be familiar with either team – I like it. It’s something that a local news station might report, just because.

Pedantic, basic math point: unless I missed Dallas winning one, when using just this criterion, wouldn’t Houston having 2 vs Dallas having 0 make Houston infinitely better than Dallas?

  16. I don’t think it is a good idea to use the word “hate” in any sport.

I know it’s probably meant to be tongue-in-check, but it’s completely classless. What are we teaching our children with this?

  17. FC Dallas fans…what you’ve just said … is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  18. Wow! I thought Portland vs Seattle was a rivalry but now I stand corrected. Dallas vs Huston has set a new standard! Well…maybe not.

  19. What’s with this “must-see” crap that keeps popping up? A smack talk video? How original.

When you use “must-see” so often, it demeans the importance of the term and whatever you’re attaching it to.

  20. I go to school in Dallas and I’m from Houston and honestly most people in Houston actually know about our team, even if they don’t care about it. In Dallas whenever I mention FC Dallas the average response is, “We have a team?”

  21. yeah…just watched the video, was hoping to come back and tell you you were wrong, but uhhhh, I can’t. you’re right.

  22. You left out some of the other forms of smack originating on the Dallas end. For instance the small banner they put up in (it looks like the concourse?) Robertson stadium or the mock postcard they sent San Jose on behalf of Houston.

  23. Hmmm….you said title(s), plural, correct? Yeah, ok. So out of ALL the clubs that have won multiple championships, Houston has the least ability to talk smack. Mmmmk.

  24. Houston has the least ability to talk smack about their titles out of any club that’s won a mls cup b/c that team was built in SJ and they just inherited it via AEG’s shenanigans.
