SBI MLS Player of the Week: Andy Najar

It is rare when our pick for SBI MLS Player of the Week is someone who hasn't scored a goal, but this week Andy Najar deserved the nod for the creative spark he supplied to help D.C. United register four points this past week.

Najar assisted on both goals in D.C. United's 2-1 win against Seattle last Wednesday, and then was United's most dangerous player in a scoreless draw against FC Dallas that D.C. could have easily won. That was enough to help him edge out teammate Charlie Davies, Landon Donovan and Toronto FC's Joao Plata for this week's honors.

What did you think of Najar's performances? Who got your vote for this week's MLS Player of the Week?

  1. I’m sure the complainers on here are NY scum who think rodgers deserves player of the week. I would take Landycakes over a ball headed oompa loompa anyday.

  2. chill, i hate it when ppl got something to say when someone just has an opinion. The reason why i found it funny is cuz i never heard anyone in MLS ever saying stuff like that. Thats really all there is to it. was it professional? of course not, I just said it was funny cause its something you wouldnt expect.

  3. I’d vote for the RBNY player that cleared the ball off the line against the Galaxy. That was the play of the week.

  4. The WNT is not better than the MNT. You mean relative to other women’s teams… that no one cares about either.

  5. Andy was the one player for DC that was dangerous and creative against FC Dallas until he had to leave the game with an injury. His problem was that he didn’t have anybody to work with. If only one of his teammates had also played with creativity nobody would have been questioning the pick. He and Charlie Davis are really going to be hurt by the injury to Branco Boscovic

  6. Andy came into the season out of shape, so he had to work himself back into shape. He is now, obviously getting back into game fitness.

  7. As a DCU fan, I am not complaining about Najar’s choice, but did SBI start awarding hockey-style secondary assists? If I recall correctly, Charlie Davis and Josh Wolff each had a goal and an assist (of crosses) on two nearly identical goals in 2-1 win over Settle Sounders. I believe Najar played the ball to the players who hit the crosses. I would also add Beckham to the list of runner ups for the player of the week title – he had a really nice game against NYRBs spraying precise and dangerous passes to his teammates. But I don’t take an issue with his omission from the discussion since he is one of the most overrated players in the world.

  9. Should be very interesting to see how Najar develops.

Off topic, but is there going to be anything about the USWNT World Cup roster that was announced this morning? Realize that we focus more on the men’s side of things here, but the women are by far the better US NT.

“Why does that name sound familiar…?”

  11. Didnt see anything from him or Davies vs. FC Dallas.

They must have put in some serious work agains Seattle for their names to be mentioned!

  12. a force for generations to come. Finally Benny is playing him more, not sure why he wasn’t playing as much earlier in the season. He has proven his worth as the team’s most talented player, and can even slot well into the attacking mid-serviceman role that Charlie and Wolfy need. Pull Dax back a bit.
