The defending MLS champions are having trouble closing out their opponents these days.

The Colorado Rapids settled for a 1-1 home draw against Sporting Kansas City, with Ryan Smith's 75th-minute strike forcing the MLS Cup holders into their fifth consecutive tie.

Smith took a well-struck, left-footed shot from just inside the area to beat Matt Pickens and level the score well after Conor Casey opened the scoring in the 13th minute, pouncing on an awful backpass to net his first goal of the year for Colorado (4-3-6).

Sporting KC (1-6-2) snapped a five-game losing skid with the draw and has one game left on its season-opening 10-game road trip before opening Livestrong Sporting Park on June 9 against Chicago.

  1. Pickens made 2 great saves, that one on Bravo then one on Chance Myers very early. Bunbury rushed the volley and tried to hit it too hard, poor

  2. Watching the game on tv, KC had a ton of missed opportunities in the 2nd half. Bunbury had an open net and missed at the very end of the game, and Bravo somehow got his shot blocked after putting the moves on GK.
