Panama’a coach, Dely Valdes, had only coached a handful of games before preparing for this tournament and he showed that BB and the US can be figured out pretty easily. Panama wanted that game far mroe than we did and BB was out coached. Other middle-of-the-pack CONCACAF teams (minnows on the global stage) are starting to realize this.

It would be really exciting to see Guardiola take the reins in MLS or with the Nats at some point, but I’m not yet convinced about his ability as a coach. Barcelona has incomparable resources, a fantastic youth system, an unbelievable first-team roster, and knowledgeable ownership. No MLS team has those things, and the National Team is a whole different ballgame altogether. I think he’s done a great job of managing his wealth of talent and resources at Barcelona, but the challenges he would face in the US would be monumental, comparatively speaking. A more seasoned Guardiola (if he continues along his current trajectory) would be a dream for the WC 2018 or 2022 cycles. Of course he’s not likely to step out of his comfort zone at Barcelona anytime soon.
