It was one of the biggest and most unforgettable goals in U.S. national team history. Landon Donovan's last-minute game-winning goal against Algeria at last summer's World Cup sent a soccer nation into a frenzy and sent the United States into the World Cup Round of 16.

It might seem like that goal just happened, but it has already been a year since that unforgettable finish. Here it is, for all of you to reminisce.

  1. And Alan Jackson Sang…

Where were you when Landon Donovan scored, on that summer day?

Were you in South Africa waving a flag, or back at some bar in the states?

Did you take your shirt off and scream in the pub, in a crowded room did you run around? Did you give a dirty look to your wife at home, just glad you had somebody to love.

Where were you when Landon Donovan scored, on that summer day?

  2. That was a great team goal but my fav Donovan WC goal was when he came out the 2nd half against slovenia and single handedly top shelfed that goal. That energized the team and turned that game around.

  3. I was at the FC Dallas Pizza Hut Park Stadium Club watching party in Frisco, TX. It was amazing. It was an amazing moment and the greatest sports moment in my entire life. I remember I was interviewed by a Spanish TV Station and I asked some friends how do I Say Heart Attack in Spanish? 🙂

  4. Same. Same. Same. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. The celebrations outside the stadium were amazing. And over a late-night dinner, watching the highlights in a restaurant, my buddy and I couldn’t believe what we had just witnessed.

  5. That was a major step forward, now the task is to get to the next level. Tomorrow’s game would be a step in the right direction.

  6. Had a morning meeting in Minneapolis. My non-soccer watching co-worker agreed to take a super early flight so we could camp out the Sweetwater Bar and Grill that’s attached to a hotel. We dug into the breakast buffet as the England and US games were both playing. I could see things were looking bad. My co-worker was texting or some nonsense when the goal went in. The place erupted and I remember some guy telling a young kid, “You will never know a time when the US sucked at soccer”. Was totally distracted the rest of the day and kept creeping into the lobby to see how the Germany-Ghana game was proceeding because that determined our next opponent.

  7. I was at a Taco Mac in Atlanta as well, the Ellard Village location to be exact, watching with about 4 friends or so. The place was packed to bursting. Servers could hardly get to their tables. Toward the end of the game, it got deadly silent as hope and dejection were fighting for control of everyone’s imagination. When Donovan made that great run everybody’s hope picked up, and when he picked out Jozy in the box it jumped palpably higher, then the ball is at Dempsey’s feet and you can feel everyone getting ready to jump out of their seat to celebrate. But he’s rejected, and it seemed like the longest moment of shock and horror before Donovan entered the tv screen. He slotted the ball home so calmly it took everyone a split second to recover from their previous state and realize the magnitude of that seemingly casual tap of of the foot, and then from there it was just a pure eruption of unbridled, ridiculous joy. I almost feel dizzy thinking about it.

  8. Was watching in an upstairs section of Joe Cool’s bar in Durban, South Africa with about 30 other yanks. They played the England-Slovenia game downstairs, and the Brits came upstairs just in time to see Donovan lash home the group-winner. Brilliant stuff, will never forget it.

  10. “Howard… gratefully claims it.

    Distribution… brilliant.

    Donovan.

Are things on here for the USA?

    Can they do it here?

Cross… And Dempsey is denied again!

    Oh, it’s incredible!

You could not write a script like this!”

  11. At an oceanside bar in Myrtle Beach, SC. I picked up my 5-year-old and ran uncontrollably through the place. He was laughing at me and said “I love you daddy.”

    Indelibly etched, to be sure.

  12. I was in a Pub in Ireland that was showing both the US game and the England game. The cheers for the dramatic US finished drowned out the english celebrations (of course the Irish have little love for England).

Later walking in the streets of Dublin with my wife and son (in our USMNT jerseys), we heard lots of cheers of “Go USA” from pedestrians and a bus driver honked his horn as we walked past and cheered “USA USA”.

    Fun time!

  13. At a dive bar (The Quarterdeck)on Cape Cod. They put the game on a small TV in the corner for me because the bartender was watching Happy Gilmore on the big flatscreen. Cape Cod is a miserable place to try and watch soccer on TV.

  14. It’s amazing how quickly some players in their primes go from being on top of Bob Bradley’s player pool to being seemingly exiled from the pool.

    -Ricardo Clark
    -Robbie Findley
    -Edson Buddle
    -Kenny Cooper
    -Eddie Johnson
    -Marvell Wynne

It just proves how clueless and mindless Bob Bradley is. How does he have the top US coaching job?

Then you have guys like Jon Bornstein. It kills me.

But everyone will overlook this because we have a great chance of winning the prestigious Gold Cup on home soil against world class CONCACAF competition.

  15. Taking a summer class at the University in my hometown, and then was scheduled to do lab work there after class. By the time I got to work, there may have been only 20 min left. But we converted the computer to a TV and watched it and the other students (4) and the professor watched with me, even though none were big fans, and to be honest, neither was I at the time. But when the goal went in we started screaming so loud that students from other labs came running in to see what was up. Later that day I was on google trying to find a video replay of the game so I could watch the whole game, and I found SBI. It’s crazy to think of a time when I wasn’t so into soccer and then even crazier to remember that it was a year ago. Since then I have converted my sisters, and even convinced my dad into going to the USA/Canada game w/ me (even though it was a 9 hour drive)
