American goalkeeper Brad Friedel will look to keep his English Premier League record consecutive matches streak going next season with Tottenham.

Fox Soccer reported on Thursday night that Friedel has reached a deal with Tottenham after his contract with Aston Villa expired. Friedel is expected to take over as Tottenham's starting goalkeeper, replacing Heurelho Gomes. Friedel joins Tottenham on a free transfer. He will be introduced at White Hart Lane on Friday.

Friedel, 40, joins a Spurs side that will compete in Europa League next season, and will be trying to return to the Top Four after finishing out of the UEFA Champions League places this season.

What do you think of this move? Think Tottenham is making a smart decision signing Friedel? Curious to see where Brad Guzan will wind up?

  1. I realize that. But that doesn’t make it good journalism. A scoop is a scoop. Don’t take credit for what you didn’t do.

  2. Clearly a step in the wrong direction. I appreciate that he’s made room for Guzan at Villa, but I would have rather seen him go to a club with an opportunity to play in some meaningful games.

  3. As a Spurs fan, I’m stoked. Gomes made some amazing saves, but those may or may not have resulted in goals otherwise, whereas his fumbles always resulted in goals. Hopefully Brad’s reflexes can stay strong for one more year.
