Impact secures BMO as jersey sponsor

ImpactLogo

While some Major League Soccer teams are without jersey sponsors, the Montreal Impact won't have that problem heading into its inaugural season in the league in 2012.

The Impact announced a five-year sponsorship deal with the Bank of Montreal (BMO) on Tuesday, one that includes the BMO logo appearing on the front of the club's uniforms.

BMO is no stranger to MLS, as the company also sponsors Toronto FC's jersey and owns the naming rights to the team's stadium.

Impressed that the Impact already has a jersey sponsor while some long-standing MLS teams do not? What do you think of Montreal and Toronto having the same kit sponsor?

  1. Great season for the Impact in Division II/NASL. They are dominating the division, still undefeated, and are well on their way to earn promotion to MLS.

    Wait…that doesn’t sound right…

Aren’t the Impact God Awful, getting humiliated game in and game out? But the rich uncle has money and has already bought a spot in MLS.

Sad…I cannot take MLS seriously until and unless real promotion/relegation is instituted. and by promotion/relegation I don’t mean Don Garber prostituing himself and the league to the highest bidder…

And stop playing with that Jabulani abomination of a ball…

  2. exactamundo geraldo. and i get the feeling thats not the only cash Canadian teams want to spend. I hope one of them (saputo probably) grows some you know what and seeks to spend like crazy, then revolts against MLS in wanting to spend more. Actually, i think you could have a good 4 or 5 superclubs in MLS on that side of border, though i doubt they could support their own league. I think Canadian MLS teams should have different rules since they’re a different country. If Can teams want to have no salary cap, then thats up to CAN Soc Federation. No one in MLS should fear the desires of any team that wants to spend more ON MLS. Also, what gives on all the comments removed by moderator? is it an intern doing this?

  3. BMO is actually Bank of Montreal, so it makes more sense for the Impact to have them than TFC. That said, I still can never find a BMO ATM when I need one. Bastards.

  4. Why not? Canadians like soccer as much as American. That’s one Canadian team for every 10 million Canadians and one American team for every 20 million Americans. Maybe Canadians like soccer more?

  5. why did they appoint another Canadian team as the 19th club? who will they pick for the 20th? Miami or Atlanta or St. Louis? Gonna be a hard decision. The Southeast needs a team. Lots of Hispanic support for a team if in Miami. St. Louis has true soccer history though

  6. Colorado, Dallas, Chicago, Columbus, Kansas City. Funny/sad thing is that they are all MLS originals (minus Chicago -’98).

  7. I think its a good sign for the league that the same company would sponser another shirt. They have a few years expercience and must feel its a good way to spend their money.

  8. How do you expect him to make a living? He’s a soccer journalist in the USA.

The only thing that bothers me is the ad by ExxonMobil that lies to me about their environmental sustainability. Go to hell, you bastards.

And seriously though, the ads have gotten worse recently, especially when trying to navigate the site using a cell phone.

  10. The Best Buy and Glidden contracts have expired. Chicago and Columbus do not currently have jersey sponsors.

  11. Chicago have Best Buy right? I don’t understand why Dallas doesn’t have Pizza Hut since they own their stadium. Columbus has Glidden

  12. Besides money i dont see how you would want to do this if your’re Mont,TFC sponser and stadium name? You would think that they would want to seperate as much as possible from a rival, but cash is cash i guess especially when some teams dont have sponsors but i would be pissed if i was a Mtl supporter…pretty weak

  13. It’s a baked goods and food brand. Actually, FYI, it’s the largest baked goods company in the world. They also are the kit sponsor for the Union.

  14. Well, it’s not uncommon around the world for two teams in the same league (even rivals) to have the same shirt sponsor.

  15. United Healthcare is not a sponsor per se. The deal with United is a charitable in-kind deal where the Kraft’s have given them the ability to advertise for free. There will be some in-kind linkeages…but the team is not receiving cash for the sponsorship
