Chelsea may not be getting one of South America's top young talents, but they might land one of Europe's.

Chelsea has confirmed it is in talks with RSC Anderlecht stiker Romelu Lukaku. The 18-year-old Belgian international has been held in high regard by Chelsea for some time, and the club is now in negotiations with him.

Having just lost out in the chase to sign Brazilian sensation Neymar, Chelsea could still acquire one of the world's up-and-coming talents if it signs Lukaku, who scored 15 goals in league play for Anderlecht last season.

Here are more stories from Saturday:

Modric wants out of Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has admitted he is ready to leave the club this summer, although he says he won't submit a formal transfer request. Modric is reportedly tempted by the possibility of joining Chelsea, which has already had a $36 million offer rejected. Manchester City and Manchester United are also reportedly keeping an eye out on Modric.

Gervinho and Arsenal making progress

Arsenal has confirmed talks with Gervinho are making progress, and that a resolution for the Lille forward should be expected by sometime next week. The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international has been linked with several clubs, but Lille has ruled out selling him to rival Paris Saint-Germain. Gervinho is also said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Newcastle set to sign Marveaux

Newcastle United is set to make its third signing of the summer, agreeing to a five-year deal with midfielder Sylvain Marveaux. The capture of Marveaux will come as a surprise to Liverpool, which thought it had the 25-year-old's signature in the bag.
