If Oguchi Onyewu is going to revive his club career, he'll have to do so in Portugal.

Onyewu has left AC Milan for Sporting CP, signing a three-year deal with the Portuguese club. The United States international, who was unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday, joins the club on a free transfer after two disappointing seasons with Milan.

Onyewu will be fighting for a starting spot with the Lions, which are looking to build on last season's third-place finish in the Primeira Liga.

The move to Sporting CP puts an end to Onyewu's time with Milan, where he saw limited minutes during his two-year stint. Milan loaned Onyewu to Dutch club FC Twente during the second half of last season, but a permanent deal never materialized.

What do you think of Onyewu signing with Sporting Lisbon? Do you see him starting? Think he should've gone elsewhere?

  1. I have.

What he has said is that playing time with a club is an important factor but it isn’t the only factor.

He has been very consistent on this starting back with giving Benny Feilhaber PT when he had no club.

When you are a national team manager and have a limited talent pool available you have to be flexible.
