  1. Jozy missed his target, (Wondo’s foot), by inches…Wondo missed his by yards…and you want to blame Jozy’s pass?

  2. George John is definitely better. Though it would be cool and interesting if he played for Greece, the US could definitely use his talent.

  3. To say that Jozy is the next Freddy Adu is not a stretch.
They both signed on with big clubs they couldn’t make. They both have been loaned out to other lesser teams, and their minutes played declined every year.

  4. I see two major problems in Bradley’s strategy.

The first is that he likes to send the two outside backs deep into the opposition end of the field consistently. I think this leaves the remaining two backs vulnerable when the opposition uses a fast break with both their forwards and some mid fielders. I don’t see that strategy being used much in Arena’s teams or in the EPL although they do it sometimes.

The second problem is that the pass completion rate is too low to be competitive in international soccer. However, both Donovan and Dempsey have very good pass completion success.

  5. You realize he’s referring to the low cross that wondo skied, in which altidore beat his man took a touch down the end-line and fired a good cross through the six.

  6. It’s true we don’t score a lot of goals. But looking at the tape, there is no way I can say we didn’t have our chances!

  7. or Convey? why not Bobby Convey, because he had a blow out with Bradley a few years ago??? because he occasionally sulks? so what. the kid can cross the freaking ball. this team needs width.
and if youre going to allow Ream to start for us continually after showing poorly, then why not give Brek Shea another shot. because he had a rough go of it in January? i judt dont get it. wheres Buddle?

  8. “ill advised tackle”…Ream is simply going for the ball, but when the Panamanian player elbows him that unbalances Ream in the process of swinging his leg and makes it look like he’s tackling and not even close to the ball…it only looks bad due to the panamanian’s elbow putting Ream off…looks at the highlights. This is what happened on that play. If the guy never elbows Ream, then both Ream and Panamanian make contact with ball at same time

  9. Altidore was back defending on the set piece. But then he stopped. You can see it on the replay above at 5:35. He decided to stand raising his hand for offside instead of staying with the man. Ooops.

  10. I think the focus on Ream, Goodson, and Wondo is misplaced.

This is Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey’s team. Duece at least was going in the right direction in the first half. But where was Donovan?

He came on in the second half but was not able to come up with any magic.

We all know, by now, that Altidore and the forwards are not going to score many goals. Altidore in fact looks more like a winger to me. Dribble around some players and fire in a nice cross. But he will never be the big time goal scorer we need so badly. That means the goals have to come from Donovan and Duece. Where is Donovan?

Or is the real problem that BB’s system is not designed to get the most out of our best player…

Landon you have to step up and be counted!!!

  11. I was talking about our defense on Panama’s first goal. That’s what it came down to. two goals Panama never should have scored.

  12. So wait, it’s Altidore’s responsibility to defend the entire field, even back to his own 6 yard box? No wonder we never score.

  13. If the U.S. performs like they did against Panama yes Jamaica would have a chance. The U.S. should be able to beat Jamaica if they do play in the knockout rounds, though. First, we have to take care of business against Guadeloupe. It works both ways though because Jamaica probably won’t think they got a break if the second place finisher they have to play is the U.S.

  14. Last night was disappointing but you can’t base the country’s future off of one game. It didn’t even feature some of the most promising young guys we have. We’re gonna see big things from guys like Gatt, Gyau, Doyle, Boss, Gil, hopefully Renken, and of course Agudelo in the next 5-10 years. We’ve got a lot of talent coming up in the pipeline, brother. Don’t you worry.

  15. It’s a dumb joke people have on this site where they give the time of how long it takes someone to mention Adu in a thread. It was funny for a while but now it’s just old.

  16. You’re spot on. A lot of it has to do with the movement of the forwards. I’ve seen a grand total of ONE good run off the ball from a forward in these last two game, and the result (awful goalkeeping notwithstanding) was Jozy’s goal. We’ve got a decent passing midfielder in Bradley and enough creativity on the flanks to find a good run when it’s made, but they’re made far too seldom. Whether it’s inexperience or something a little more worrisome, that’s our forwards’ problem.

  17. abc,

I am assuming you have been watching the USMNT for several years,…and have some knowledge of prior teams and players. Did Carlos Bocanegra, Gooch, Cherundlolo, Agoos, Heyduk, Pope, Berhalter, Lalas, Balboa,….to name a few, ever get burned or otherwise make a mistake, or put a foot wrong which resulted in a goal? If you have been watching the USMNT for several years,…you would know the answer is a resounding YES! Agoos for God’s sake was the King (!) of defensive howlers and he has what,…100+ caps.

Point is,…Ream put a foot wrong,…an ill advised tackle and it cost the team. That doesn’t mean he is crap, that doesn’t mean the loss to Panama should be laid at his feet. He is learning and he should be on the field.

Simply put,…there are no better center backs in the national team pool than Ream.

  19. I was referring to the NATS in recent times and not the current group. Actually, the CC was an up and down affair if you remember the whole tournament.

People want to point to Coach Bradley on the uneven play, but I also think it reflects the experience and talent disparity of our player pool.

  20. I was hoping mad last night but with time to cool down and review the highlights I’m a little back down to Earth. Panama did very well on the counter but really had some luck and some poor officiating to get through. Still, there are some major issues to be resolved.
First, we need some wing play on the left, Dempsey drifts in to be involved and Boca offers too little going forward. As much as I like Agudelo I think that it is time we move Dempsey up top and bring Juanito off the bench. The other option would be to put Lichaj in at left and move Boca over, with Ream to the bench.
Second, for all his supposed distribution talents, I never saw much from Ream going forward. He doesn’t even move up for the corners, and that tells you how he is in the air. Both Ream and Goodson lobbed a lot of balls over the midfield to Jozy and Juanito and that ain’t going to cut it with a defense and big and physical as that of Panama’s. When they finally got some midfield play going they actually had some nice combinations, same as in the Canada match.

  21. re: 1. Unfortunately, that is Stuart Holden. Although BB will probably play him again at wing!

It was a mistake that should have corrected at the half to start both Jones and Bradley against a much quicker team. Should have brought Bedroya in earlier.

Our Captain is too old and too slow. Lichaj shoulstart next game.

  22. Everyone who hyped Tim Ream here (they number in the hundreds, including Ives) has some explaining to do.

Everyone who has ever said Wondo may lack athleticism but he is a finisher has some explaining to do.

  23. The problem is, even if the US beats Guadelupe, they’re not guaranteed first in the group, and so might have significant trouble getting to the final. First in the group will play El Salvador/Guatemala, whereas 2nd in the group will most likely be facing Jamaica. I can definitely see Jamaica beating the US, especially if the US plays as flat as they did yesterday.

The Federation needs to be completely cleaned out, because its obvious they don’t care about the fans just the money in our pockets, and I refuse to watch the same failures repeated continuously, many have agreesd with this issue. Fan reactions aren’t pretty from the videoes I’ve seen from yesterday and today.

Long live America and FOS.

  26. The talent pool is drying up. US just can’t develop skilled players. I don’t know how to fix the system but I think we are in for a down period. There are holes everywhere.

  27. The biggest problem with Bob Bradley as I see it is, as the months tick by, the US team is simply not getting better. They’re just not advancing as a squad anymore under his leadership. I’m not sure I can think of ANY clear way in which they’re even improving. Their high point under Bradley was two years ago in the Confederations Cup. Last summer at the WC, they completely lucked out at the last minute to make it to the second round, otherwise, everyone knows Bradley’s contract would not have been extended.

Unfortunately they’re just stale, old bread at this point. Whether it’s a company, or any organization, that’s when you know you need new leadership. I’m sure, intellectually, Bob Bradley knew this after the World Cup, but how the heck was he gonna turn down the money ($500,000 base, another $200-300 in bonuses) when Europe was not calling as he had hoped? Who else would hire him (other than MLS), much less pay him anywhere near that kind of money?

  28. obviously, the reason Ream’s kick is nowhere near the ball on that penalty call is cause he’s elbowed by panamanian guy and put off balance. That was clearly a bad call. Perhaps its a free kick, but def not a pk.

  32. It was just one of those games.

We couldn’t do anything right. Ream had a tough game. I still think he has potential, but we forget how green this guy is. There are going to be nights like this.

However, it should be noted that we had many opportunities to stay in the game. We created way more than Panama. Wondo missed a sitter, MB missed that late shot from nearly the spot, Clint had a few shots, and LD and Dolo put in a lot of good balls that, had luck been on our side, might have gone in.

This stuff happens in soccer. Occasionally, Man U loses to Bolton. Spain loses to USA. USA loses to Panama. We are going to bounce back. We are too talented not to.
