The U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 kicks off tonight with eight MLS teams in action across the country.

There are some quality rivalries being sparked, such as the all-LA pre-quarterfinal and the Kitsap Pumas-Seattle Sounders tilt.

  1. I don’t think it’s so much not taking the tournament seriously as it is overconfidence in early rounds. In the last couple of years MLS teams have pretty much played their regular 11 as they start playing other MLS teams.

  2. I supposed Columbus should be lucky the RailHawks weren’t in it, or they might’ve lost 4- or 5-1, eh?

    It would be nice to see the MLS squads take this a bit more seriously. Columbus started 4 rookies, an injury rehab, a popcorn vendor, 2 of the Crewzers, and Carl the usher from section 225. But all anyone is going to see is that a third-division club knocked off an “MLS” squad in the tournament.

  4. Which mls team is most likely to get upset?
    I think the fire playing at Roc has to be the most likely, but if Dallas plays too many subs they may be surprised by Orlando…
