  1. LEEEEEEEE HIIIIII

with very much a ‘country twang’ on the ‘eeee’ as in Hee Haw, but drawn out. quite funny.

I will say, the announcers are entertaining on the spanish broadast, but not very knowledgable about the players….so I do miss that from FSC. Now, if you wanted to know what Andres Guardado’s God monthers name is, they have that information….

  2. I hate to break this to you, but if there was no contact, then Taylor committed a very cynical… nothing. No contact, no foul.

As it happens, it appears that there WAS contact, which seems, as I read the rule, to be an automatic red card in that situation. Jones should have gotten a second yellow and been sent off for diving, however.

  3. Here is the link you are talking about. (Props to Jose Uribe for loading…and going through the trouble of a zoom in, slow motion and to Tom from yesterday’s thread for finding it.)

Take a peeky at 0:35-0:36 of this video you naysayers (not you Baller, the other-non believers)

  4. Come on man. Reggae Boyz got worked over. However had they capitalized on that first opportunity it could have been a different game. Either way it seems obvious that the better team won.

  5. You’re right, I read the rule…has to be two defenders (normally includes keeper) in front of the player…only one in this case. My bad!

  6. The offsides on the Donovan pass to Dempsey on the breakway was a complete mistake by the referees and would most likely have been a goal by Clint. The defender clearly goes back into the goal mouth to cover the net and there should have been no offsides. Can’t believe nobody is seeing/talking about this anywhere?!

Although I do think Donovan has seemed very timid this year for whatever reason with his runs and taking on defenders (both at Gold Cup and with Galaxy) holding the ball up was the right call here as he had Clint in on goal with just a defender protecting.

  7. I’m with you ex! Granted I do know a good bit of Spanish, but I’ve gotten where I choose univision over FSC every time for US games. Dellacamera and his sidekick are just straight up boring, and the univision guys offer fun, insightful, unbiased commentary..

  8. Dempsey missed it. In his defense, it was a tough play to make – the header skidded off the grass at an odd angle. It was a great play to get to it, but a great save by Ricketts.

And I agree with you on Donovan. Remember he had the ball about 40 yards from goal with the keeper out against Canada and elected to pass. I can’t remember the last time he scored from open play where he put in the work himself and didn’t just knock in a rebound (Algeria – and I’m not calling that a bad goal at all). Actually, I can remember – vs. Brazil in the CC finals in 2009.

  9. Haha. If this is some schtick or routine ala Charlie Kaufman then well done sir. I’m not going to even consider the alternative. Nobody could be that delusional. Right? Anyways, keep up the subversive comedy, this site is better for it!

  10. Is called Class. Not everybody surrounds the referee to complain like the US players do. Watch the PK call on Ream against Panama. Clear foul and yet US players start to harass the referee immediately.

  11. It was a slomo from Univision on Youtube.

It was embellishment, but Jones clearly had his heel clipped. That’s why the defender walked off with no protest, he did clip a heel.

  12. I’m getting very fond of the Univision commentators. It makes me laugh every time the guy describes a particularly lame shot that misses the goal by a mile as “largo, feo, alto, desviado” (long, ugly, high, and off-target).

  13. We completely dominated them. I was there. They had no answer for us at any position on the field. Our central defenders were suffering from total boredom for most of the game. We moved the ball well, made great off the ball runs, and peppered Ricketts’ goal with shots.

Usually when people are cheated, they realize it and voice some complaints about the matter. Read the Jamaican players’ and coaches reaction to both the Taylor foul and the game generally. You won’t find any of that.

  14. if there is contact on a tackle from behind on a breakaway you will always get a card. if its the last man it will always be a red no question.

    there was contact.

  15. there’s a slo mo link on the game review commentary, the defender definitely clipped Jone’s heal and threw him off balance but Jones definitely embellished it and went down on his own

  16. There was contact. The video has been posted elsewhere, you can find it in slow motion on youtube. Ives also tweeted it.

Jones embellished after the foul, he didn’t dive. Let’s not create a whole mythology about this. A dive is when a player goes down without any contact, simulating a foul that never took place.

And let’s not forget that the reason we are even discussing it is because of the horridly cynical tackle by Jermaine Taylor which was INTENDED to be a slide tackle from behind on a breakaway as the last defender. The tackle was shameful in its intent, and that shouldn’t be lost just because he failed to completely clear Jones’ legs out. Even if there was NO contact (which there was if you check the tape), Taylor committed a very cynical foul.

  17. No, but he definitely took a dive, without any contact. What makes it worse was eh really was in all alone on goal. No way he should go down in that situation, unless he thinks he can’t beat a goalie 1v1.

  18. Absolute domination by the Nats. Total dismantling. The 4-2-3-1 formation needs to be kept at all costs. It’s the first time in ages that the US actually possessed the ball and worked in tight triangles for large amounts of its possession. Very Spain-like.

We out-shot Jamaica 18-4 and possession was something like 65-35. I can’t remember the last time the US has done that to any team.
