The U.S. men's national team is in must-win mode tonight when it takes on Guadeloupe in CONCACAF Gold Cup Group C action at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas (9pm, Fox Soccer Channel).
The Americans are looking to erase the memories of their loss to Panama, and must win tonight against Guadeloupe to advance to the Gold Cup quarterfinals. A win means the United States finishes first in Group C, while a tie would send the USA through, but it would also mean a quarterfinal date with unbeaten and un-scored upon Mexico.
SBI will be providing commentary throughout the match, so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
Enjoy the action (tonight's commentary is after the jump):
im not a sacha fan but im not blinded by my bias and say that he provided nothing positive in this game. Guess you failed to see the pass to Dempsey that he should have finished (for the 6th time)
Dude, this Cup is not the best time to critique Altidore for not being mentally ready for games. He has two game winning goals in this Cup and accounts for 50% of scoring by USMNT.
I would say some of our guys were fantastic, but I’m not going to because of the team we were on the field with!!! They are expected to play like beasts because of who they are playing against, so let’s stop this whole give credit where credit is do crap.
Simply garbage!! We created chances, yet the only goal was a 25yrd bomb. Without that, we don’t make it alive. What is with this Wondo & Sasha love?? Wondo lacks creativity, speed, reaction, etc… The guy is MLS material, not NT material. Sasha is the biggest clown, the guy suppose to bevthat offensive spark, yet every pass he make us backwards, can u guys really be serious about this clown?!!! Sasha can only dribble the ball against 3rd world teams, and even that he is not all that convincing. The man clearly sucks.
Dempsey’s miss was embarrassing. But, he was the only guy to show up to play the last two games, so I will cut him some slack!!! Dempsey created more chances for himself than Wondo who suppose to be the “True Striker”!!!
Where is Adu??? We seen what Wondo & Sasha bring to the table,.. And that would be a plate full of poop with a little wewee on the side. Unbelievable!!!!
Well, Bob decided to put Edu & jones finally together along side Demsey, bedoya, Donovan, etc.., the only problem, 5 minutes is all they got!
Fudge u BoB!! No one cares for your system anymore… You have done great things for our system, but it’s time you found a job in the MLS buddy. No hard feelings, but it is time for that fat lady to start singing. No more starting games defensive minded against weaker teams. Offense & possession! Not 60%, but a good 45%+ for starters. You know, like decent teams that claim top 20 in the world.
In the Panama game Baloy beat him to every ball.
iM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU, IT IS FRUSTRATING, God, good thing I´m a mexican american and I can root for two teams, lol, hell no!!, US all the way, but I think Mexico is better right now and we suck, our coach suck and the arent playing at their real level of play.
Many of my acquaintances, some fans of soccer and some not, have said no mas.
We will not beat Jamaica or Mexico with 1 goal. Dempsey should have converted that one toward the end.
I guess it’s good we created the chances, but I’m tired of watching us look like we don’t even practice finishing.
Wow a lot of people sure dont appreciate what a good Defensive Mid is supposed to do. Saying Jones is overated to sub him for Edu, has to much of Ricardo Clark in him.
Jones and Bradley owned that midfield. Jones was like a pitbull winning balls and closing passing lanes.
Give the guy some credit. At least the fans at the stadium aprecciated his performance.
Okay, so start Demps up top and someone else in the midfield, Agudelo versus Wondo is not our only option.
Haha +1.
I might have to give up watching any more USA games..
ugly S*it
disappointing, but i guarantee you we’ll play better Sunday. we tend to play to the level of our opponents (not named “España”)
Thank goodness for Cherundolo, Altidore and Lichaj for the fight they put up. Wow…Wow…Wow…this is a sign that we need new faces on the team and a new coach. Let it be known……Its not about WHERE you play….its about HOW you play
Jones had an great game. He disrupted the attack, made long passes, it was a much better effort than on Saturday.
Me either Pedro, struggled to beat the 87th ranked team in the world, good thing Satan’s the USSF president, thing will get better (sarcasm) absolutely Mexico’s cup to lose.
Wondo was better than Agudelo has been.
If Lupe was a better team we would’ve loss, they nearly took the lead in the 3rd minute if it didn’t hit the bar. We played like horse crap and were LUCKY to win this match, finishing second to a team ranked 67th!!! This is Bull S%#T, Jamaica could most definently beat us dont count on that match being easy for us, at all.
Amen.
This was ugly
Err no more Wondolowski please. Also, how did Bedoya almost get left off this roster and how did Rodgers make it?
I like what I saw tonight, but it needs more finish.
On the bright side Lichaj looks like he can wrap up the left back spot and he’s got some wheels.
Im happy we won. But good grief – all those chances and only 1 goal. We have GOT to do better. Poor Dempsey…I counted at least 6 good shots and nothing to show. This should have been our game 5-0 easy. Lichaj played very very well against a speedy man. Was really happy with that.
wow – how wrong you were. Dempsey looked terrible all night.
What happened to Donovan? I haven’t seem him this Gold Cup.
in the immortal words of Alexi Lalas, “set pieces, set pieces, set pieces” (i cant believe im quoting Lalas…)
Played like a team who doesn’t fear for their places. Unmotivated, casual and unprofessional.
USSF, I won’t pay to watch this type of performance.
I was wrong….just as many chances but didn’t score in the 2nd. Still, Its Clint and hes earned the benefit of the doubt. Knowing him he will come out and show well against Jamaica to make up for what was a terrible night finishing for him
Clint Clumsey
The good news is we can’t play worse, right? I mean we have to start finishing these at some point.
The bad news is Jamaica has looked surprisingly good so far in this tournament. I’m a little nervous about facing them. I have to say I never thought I’d be worried about facing Jamaica at home, but I am.
It’s very sad, hard to describe. I’m sure many here have seen better finishing at high school. I’m depressed that Canada didn’t take all three and advance.
wow…we played terrible today. There is no possible way we’ll win the gold cup with this team……IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THIS MANY CHANCES (in front of goal) AND THE SCORE ENDS 1-0??….lol, I give up
everything but the finishes over and over again; good buildups, good final balls…no finish
need to finish. duh, but there it is
This team is a joke. Jamaica will destroy the US on Sunday.
Sheesh.
