USA vs. Spain: The Pre-Game Tailgate

The U.S. men's national team takes on World Cup champions Spain today at Gillette Stadium (4:30pm, ESPN2) in a match that could be a sellout.

The Spaniards will be looking for a measure of revenge for their 2009 Confederations Cup semifinal loss to the United States. The Americans will be using the match as a final tune-up before the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which they kick off against Canada on Tuesday.

There is already big news on the U.S. team front, with Landon Donovan set to miss the match due to illness. Carlos Bocanegra is also missing the match, though it appears he's just being rested for Tuesday's match. Freddy Adu and Jonathan Bornstein also didn't make today's game-day roster.

Let this be your place for all pre-game discussions as we draw closer to today's big friendly. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. We will have a pre-game live chat, as well as our regular Match Day Commentary, so be sure to stick with SBI throughout the day.

  1. With this lineup, BB is basically giving Sasha, Ream, Rogers and other backups the opportunity to make a statement that they should have a role during the GC…

What better way to test your skill than vs the best in the world?

I’m surprised Adu isn’t in the group though, given BB is testing so many fringe guys
