Fantasy MLS: Week 20

When planning for each week of Fantasy MLS, there are many factors to consider. Then there are the things for which fantasy owners can't possibly prepare. Last week, Vancouver postponed its game vs. Real Salt Lake due to field conditions soon before the fantasy cutoff Saturday, which left many managers scrambling to find replacements for their players that suddenly weren't playing.

This week should make up for the lack of games and output last week, as there are five MLS games on Wednesday and many teams playing twice. Look to use a few transfers this week to get your optimum line up for this potentially high-scoring week.

Here are a few more items to consider before setting your fantasy lineup this week:

MULTIPLE GAMES

New England, Toronto, Dallas, Colorado, New York, San Jose, and Columbus all play twice this week. Try to avoid New England and Toronto players, as they are two of the most underperforming teams in MLS, and with two games, that just gives their players more chances to get you negative points. Colorado seems to have the most favorable slate of games this week with two home games but just lost Conor Casey for the season.

BYE WEEKS

Chicago, Philadelphia, and Seattle are off from league play this week. Be sure to alter your lineup accordingly.

MFLS WEEK 20 BEST XI

GK – Matt Pickens, COL – Pickens has two home games this week and one of them is against a struggling New England side. He is a solid start in goal this week.

D – Matt Besler, SKC – Should be able to get a shutout with a home game vs. Toronto, who seems to be a team on a mission to completely change its whole roster.

D – Drew Moor, COL – Moor has two home games this week and has been known to get on the end of set pieces for Colorado.

D – Tim Ream, NY – Ream has been one of the more consistent defenders since entering the league last season. He has two chances to lead the New York defense to shutouts this week.

M – Joel Lindpere, NY – With two games this week, Lindpere has a great chance to add to his five goals and five assists on the season.

M – Brek Shea, DAL – He has been one of the hottest players in the league and has two chances this week to improve on his eight goals and one assist this season.

M – Dwayne De Rosario, DCU – De Rosario’s move to D.C. has provided more opportunities for the playmaker to show what he is still capable of doing. With a home game against a struggling New England side, he should have more chances to show off how his one-of-a-kind celebration works.

M – Landon Donovan, LA – The Galaxy captain has nine goals and one assist on the season. He is a must start every week, but also has a great matchup at home against Columbus this week.

F – Omar Cummings, COL – With Casey out for the season, Cummings will be looked to step up as Colorado’s main goal-scoring threat.

F – Chris Wondolowski, SJ – Wondolowski has still not found his stride since returning from the Gold Cup, but I rarely bet against this guy in front of goal in MLS play. The 2010 Golden Boot winner should be able to find the back of the net with two games this week.

F – Thierry Henry, NY – Henry has two games this week, and as one of the more skilled attacking players in the league, he is a good bet to take advantage of the situation.

INJURY WATCH

Conor Casey is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. For injury news, check out the most updated MLS injury report. Also, don’t forget to check out the latest disciplinary report for players serving suspensions.

The deadline for Week 20 is Wedensday at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to change your lineups by then.

  1. Interesting … because four of the top 6 overall teams, run by Spanish managers, are not even mentioned. Only SBI. Does not the rest of MFLS even exist?
