The U.S. men's national team isn't the only one introducing a new head coach to its fan base.

Argentina has appointed Alejandro Sabella as manager of the Albiceleste. Sabella replaces Sergio Batista, who was let go earlier this week after leading Argentina to a disappointing and early exit at the Copa America it hosted earlier this month.

Sabella, a midfielder in his playing days, suited up four times for the Albiceleste in his career. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Argentine and Uruguayan national teams. He also led Argentina club Estudiantes to a Copa Libertadores title in 2009 in his first senior coaching job.

Here are more stories from around the soccer world:

MARTINO RESIGNS AS PARAGUAY COACH

After four years in charge of Paraguay's national team, Gerardo Martino has stepped down. The Argentine-born coach led Paraguay to a quarterfinal finish at the World Cup and to the Copa America final this summer, where the Paraguayans ultimately lost to Uruguay. The Paraguay Federation has named Francisco 'Chiqui' Arce as Martino's successor.

FOSTER HEADS TO WEST BROM ON LOAN

West Brom has acquired goalkeeper Ben Foster on loan from Birmingham for the entirety of the upcoming season. In exchange, West Brom has shipped goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to Birmingham on a season-long loan. As part of the deal, neither team is able to recall their goalkeeper during the season.

DIABY OUT 10 WEEKS, WILL MISS START OF SEASON

Arsenal will be without midfielder Abou Diaby during the start of the Premier League season as he recovers from ankle surgery. Diaby is likely out for 10 weeks, meaning a return won't come until at least September. Should that hold true, Diaby will miss games against Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Do you see Argentina faring any better under Sabella? How do you think Paraguay will do without Martino at the helm? What do you think of the goalkeeper swap in England? Think Arsenal will be affected by not having Diaby for the start of the season?

  1. Sabella will do much better than batista. Will he win anything with the team is the real question, if he can be the one to position Messi correctly then the answer is yes otherwise no.

Any info on where el tata martino will go?

  2. West Brom is in the EPL this year and B’ham is in the Championship. I think Foster needs to be in the top league to keep himself as England keeper and B’ham prolly needs the wage relief that this switch offers.

  3. I read somewhere that Grondona has said that as long as he is head of the AFA, Carlos Bianchi will never be the manager. Shame. He would dominate at the helm.
