MLS All-Star Game: Match Night Commentary

MLS Logo ManUtdLogo

The 2011 MLS All-Star Game kicks off tonight, with the MLS All-Stars taking on English Premier League champions Manchester United at Red Bull Arena (8:30pm, ESPN).

The MLS All-Stars will be looking for a measure of revenge after last year's 5-2 MLS All-Star Game loss, though this year's squad is a stronger one than the 2010 edition. Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Faryd Mondragon are just some of the standouts bolsterig this year's All-Star Team.

SBI will be providing commentary on tonight's match so please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Tonight's commentary is after the jump):

  1. All the SBI comment whores who constantly yell “Eurosnob!” have been shut the ef up tonight. Honestly, a 2nd division english squad would have put up more of a fight tonight. Embarassing.

  2. Im pretty sure youre just one of these idiots who has something to say about ANY red bull player… what has he done wrong in this match… god, your jealousy/envy is obvious…. i hope you fall down the stairs.

  3. It’s not just ignorance, it’s recognizing how absurd y’all are being. You guys sound like members of the Greek system taking offense to the use of “frat,” or OSU folks who insist you’re not being respectful unless you say/write “The” Ohio State University.

  4. It’s a pity MLS didn’t choose a coach who has actually won a match in the last few months. I guess they were only willing to spring for PATH train fare instead of a few nights in a Holiday Inn Express.

  5. Beckham pretty defenseless as holding midfielder. Beckerman might have tracked Anderson’s run (maybe).

Also Park received the ball with way too much space.

  6. Lalas sounds clueless. He’s on a David Beckham is the problem monologue. Becks is playing well. I like that he’s all over the field. He shouldn’t be their DM. All the MLS sides had better first halves than the All-stars. With Olave out and two outclassed FB’s this might top 5 goals quickly.

  7. If Convey and Franklin stay in, the score will soon double. I never understood the Franklin selection. I thought they rip him apart. If I was Alex I’d put Nani or Young on him at the start.

  8. Manchester is about to get a taste of their own medicine when they pull their starters…Look for MLS to come back strong in this one

Final Score Prediction: MLS:4 MAN: 3

  9. best moment of the match. Commentator says that you could sell RBA 3 times over. In the background you see 2 sections (good seats) with 5-6 rows completely empty.

  10. All Star Game against United, and they still can’t fill RBA?

Also…are the ESPN staff Liverpool supporters? Just wondering what w/ the “Man U”…

  11. Can’t believe ESC dragged out their lame tifo a second time. What the hell are those red and white cards supposed to look like? A used panty liner?

  12. True , but for once I agree with Lalas about how other All Star games are farces (no defense at al in NFL and NBA). Baseball is still interesting because they play for home field.

  13. Funny how the MLS goon commentators dont mention the absence of the face Donovan, the face of American soccer. They are all over the absence of Chicharito. Both squads have a key man missing
