In a week when goals were even tougher to come by than most weeks in MLS, the Seattle Sounders and Philadelphia Union had no trouble finding the nets.

The two clubs combined for seven goals in their most recent victories, and their impressive performances led to a combined six selections on this week's SBI MLS Best XI. Midfield maestro Mauro Rosales earned MLS Player of the Week honors for his goal and assist in Seattle's 4-3 win, while Union defender Sheanon Williams garnered a nod on SBI's Best XI after scoring his first career goal in his home market of Boston.

Columbus Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer took the nets in a week that saw several goalkeeper standout, while Brad Davis made the cut for the Houston Dynamo.

Here are this week's selections for the SBI MLS Best XI:

  1. Pappa disappears from games too often nowadays. Still waiting for Oduro to get some love. He has been one of the Fire’s most dangerous and consistent performers all season. (aside from a few missed chances early on)

I’d say that he had a better all-around game than Pappa on Saturday.

  2. Not the same caliber player, but Goldthwaite’s injury was much more disturbing than Casey’s. The leg was flapping around after the torn ligaments. Hopefully he gets well soon.

  3. Rosales has looked great every time I’ve seen Seattle play this year. I’d say Aurelien Collin should be up for newcomer of the year as well. KC’s defense was horrible at the beginning of the season…they’ve been very solid since he joined the back line and and settled in…he has also chipped in three goals.

  4. Fair enough. I didn’t catch Hesmer’s, but I just can’t imagine the performance that Hall put in Saturday night going unnoticed. Any other week, he’d have to break the XI.

  5. Tally Hall not on the Best XI, much less an Honorable Mention is a travesty. 9 saves on the night (several of them spectacular), and defending his net 9 on 11 for over 20 minutes, leaking only a goal off a deflection.

    Come on now.

(SBI-An honorable mention is fair, and while there’s not much separating the top goalkeepers this week, I’ll take Hesmer’s performance for first team this week.)
