The New York Red Bulls have endured their share of problems in recent weeks, from injuries, Gold Cup absences and goalkeeping blunders, but one constant positive for the team has been the play of Joel Lindpere.
The Estonian midfielder showed once again why he's fast becoming the most important player on the Red Bulls roster by scoring two goals in New York's 2-2 tie vs. San Jose last Saturday. The performance helped New York salvage a road point, and earned Lindpere SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.
Lindpere beat out Sporting Kansas City's C.J. Sapong and FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea for top honors.
What did you think of Linpdere's performance? Who would have gotten your Player of the Week vote?

What do you mean garbage goals? Do you even know how to define garbage goals? These are goals that are made when the outcome of the game is already beyond doubt. Lindpere’s 1st goal gave NYRB the lead while the 2nd salvaged a point. Now, if you are talking about the quality of the goals, they may not be candidates for goals of the week but they were not garbage as well.
If I heard him correctly, I believe that he was John Harkes’s MVP for NY last season. I’ll have to hear him say “my MVP” for the 43rd time to be sure though. Ballsy choice by Harkes as Lindpere was voted team MVP..
Two garbage goals in a draw, not a very impressive pick but I guess there wasn’t much to choose from this week. Would have gone with Talley Hall or Saborio.
(SBI-Did you even WATCH the Red Bulls game? If you don’t think Lindpere was a deserving candidate i really don’t know what to tell you.)
I think Joel Lindpere has taken up the “Clutch” player mantle that was vacated by John Wolyneic.
It’s only an own goal if the shot is off target and then deflected, in this case it was on frame so it should be given to Lindpere
Two goals? The second one should be changed to an own goal.
lindpere is the man. can rbny make him co-captain already.
the most consistent player on that team.
He is just that: Player of one week. Because up to now he has been quietly sucking all season long.
I would’ve chosen a player who played well enough to drive his team to a win, but nothing against Lindpere.
Lindpere is the unsung hero of the RB, he works hard, enjoys the game, is a team player and asks for nothing in return. I will take 10 Joels instead of 1 inflated DP ego!
