The Colorado Rapids looked to be in a world of trouble when star striker Conor Casey went down with a season-ending Achilles tear, but for one week, a new forward option emerged to dazzle the Rapids and keep Colorado on a playoff path.

Sanna Nyassi notched his first career hat-trick in a mid-week blowout win vs. New York, then drew a penalty in Colorado's 2-2 tie vs. New England. His combined performances earned him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Nyassi edged out a strong field of candidates for this week honors, including Chivas USA's Justin Braun, Sporting Kansas City's Kei Kamara and New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry, among others.

What did you think of Nyassi's performance? Who got your vote for SBI player of the week?

  1. Disagree totally. I think people forget how much depth Seattle has in midfield and our problems at forward. But I guess I was never a Nyassi fan to start with.

  2. He was awesome last week. In addition to his hat trick, he hit the post from a long way out on a worm burner that was cleaned up by Wells Thompson for the other goal in the game. Totally dominated the Red Bulls defense.

  3. Hahahaha, I feel like you should have had one paragraph awarding the assist to the RBNY defense and midfield. Nyassi did the finishing but RBNY pretty much line-danced him to the goal every time.

  4. This just reminds me how happy I am that Nyassi was left unprotected so the Sounders could protect their Nate Jaqua investment.
