Toronto deals Gargan for Fire’s Robinson

Toronto FC is making transactions as if they were going out of style.

Toronto traded defender Dan Gargan and its second round pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft to the Chicago Fire for defender Dasan Robinson, the clubs announced Thursday.

Robinson, who was selected in the second round in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft, has played in five matches for the Fire this season. Gargan made 16 league appearances this year, starting in 12 of them.

What do you think of this development? Did the Fire or Toronto win this trade?

  1. Gordon? Who was injured the majority of his games? Tchani, whos decent but raw? (especially when we already have a dearth of DMs and are in need of Cbs)? Sorry dude, does not compute.

  2. I agree with that part! The problem he is has been ALREADY trading away players that he brought into the team!

  3. Gargan is a hardworking player with a great long throw… however he’s short on skill and we really saw it this year. He’ll hustle and you’ll love his effort, but don’t expect him to make a pass properly.

  4. Exactly.

It boggles my mind that people don’t understand that Winter is building the team that he wants with the players he chooses.

Why in the world should a new coach keep the same players that the previous coach had?

  5. No- his injury problems seem to be behind him.

Toronto is getting the better deal. Gargan was the achilles heel in Toronto’s defense. Gargan could not distribute under pressure. Often, goals were scored on his side of the field.

Dasan may be just what Toronto needs to turn their season around.

  6. very true. it’s strange how much his quality has seemed to dip in the past couple years versus his first couple in the league. i wonder if his injuries have had a serious long term impact.

  7. +1

Frings, Pardo, and Jeferson are big additions for their respective teams….I wonder there is so little activity from othere teams…

  8. face the facts, it is a much different roster that started the year. They didnt have the players for their system and now they do.

  9. If every team in MLS was as under-talented, and as under-sized as the team they played in champions league than maybe you’d be on to something.

I don’t think playing a free flowing 4-3-3 is impossible, but let’s face facts: management brought in a number of foreign signings that have been busts and the whole management team strikes me as clueless to the realities of the north american game.

  10. most impressive transfer window from any team. Frings is the experienced type of player that make players around him better.

  11. No, they looked good in Champions League and they will only imrove from here. Winyter is a fresh breath of air for MLS. They couldnt get all the players they wanted before the season, now they are complete and deep.

  12. So Winter should be keeping all of Preki’s players and not bring in players that are complimentary to his style/formations is what youre saying?

  13. has nothing to do with Klinnsman, this is Mariner here.

Dunno anything about Dasan but Gargan, regardless of how hard he works is not a good footballer.

  14. The Fire needed a backup rightback with Ristic gone. They didn’t need another second to third string centerback, which is where Dasan was in term of depth. He was a good guy, but unfortunatly has become less of a presence in recent years and ended up a bit error prone.
I don’t know much of Gargan, but hopefully he actually plays rb and is not an out of position midfielder like Ristic was.

  15. Dasan is a great guy, and can be in the starting 11, but his pace over the years has diminished. He gets burned by speedy outside wingers.
