The threat posed by Hurricane Irene has caused another MLS postponement.

D.C. United and the Portland Timbers have postponed their match this weekend that was slated to be played Saturday afternoon at RFK Stadium. D.C. pushed the start time of the game back from its original 7:30 p.m. scheduled start to 2 p.m. in hopes of getting the game in before the storm but ultimately decided to postpone it altogether because of safety concerns.

A make up date will be announced sometime next week.

The match is the third on the East Coast that's been postponed because of the hurricane. MLS postponed the New York-Los Angeles and Philadelphia-New England matches that were scheduled for Sunday.

  1. Portland can use the break after playing 4 games in 11 days. Too bad their next game isn’t for 2 another weeks.

Selfishly, I hope they reschedule for Oct 7 or 8 since I’ll be out there for work.
