Chivas USA has finally announced the acquisition of Juan Pablo Angel, and his arrival looks to have come at a cheap price.

Having acquired Angel via a trade with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA only gave up a third round natural 2012 Supplemental Draft pick in exchange. There was no word as to why it took Chivas USA so long to announce the move.

Angel joins the Goats after a disappointing first season with the Galaxy in which he only scored three goals and had one assist. But Chivas USA, currently in sixth place in the Western Conference, is hoping Angel's skill and veteran leadership will help the club advance to the playoffs.

Here are more stories from around the league:

REAL SALT LAKE ADDS WAGNER

Real Salt Lake added depth to its defense and midfield on Tuesday, signing veteran Blake Wagner. The 23-year-old Wagner, who is in his fifth season in MLS, is expected to provide depth primarily for Real Salt Lake's wingbacks, Tony Beltran and Robbie Russell. Wagner spent the first half of the current MLS season with the Vancouver Whitecaps, but was released on July 28.

LEAGUE SUSPENDS SPORTING KC ASSISTANT PASCARELLA

Sporting Kansas City lost more than just a game when they were defeated at home by the Seattle Sounders. The league suspended Sporting assistant coach John Pascarella for three games on Tuesday due to his behavior and comments directed towards match officials in the Aug. 6 loss to the Sounders. Pascarella will serve his suspension immediately, meaning he will miss Sporting's games against the Portland Timbers, D.C. United and FC Dallas.

FC DALLAS ADDS DEFENDER ON LOAN

FC Dallas acquired defender Jack Stewart on loan from NASL side NSC Minnesota Stars on Tuesday. Stewart provides good size at 6-foot-2 and has MLS experience, having played with the Chicago Fire and Real Salt Lake from 2005-2007. Stewart was a starting center back for the Stars this season, and he helped them to allow just 20 goals in the first 20 games of the season.

What do you think of Chivas USA finally announcing Angel's arrival? Think RSL made a good move by adding Wagner? Surprised Pascarella received a three-game ban?

  1. Now that I think about it, though, I don’t believe it. If he is leaving soccer because he can’t provide for his family, what is he doing NOW to earn more than he was making kicking a soccer ball around a field for 90 minutes?
Who exactly is hiring Lenhart to do a normal people job at more than his MLS salary, in this economy?

  2. Isn’t that Heath Pearce during his “hipster phase?” Maybe he’s trying to teach JPA how to ride an imaginary fixed-gear bike.

  3. But that info (5 years’ experience) came only after the pairing of “veteran” and being just 23, you see. Thus the effect…

  4. It’ll be interesting to see the spin from both sides on this one. I for one think that the wages in MLS are ridiculous. It is disappointing that a 2nd division league in Scandinavia can pay more than MLS for “average” veterans. Even worse is the $40K salary for depth players. If you believe some rumors, Steven Lenhart has to leave soccer because his father died and he cannot provide for the family with an MLS salary. I know, and support, the intelligence behind a salary cap, but are the owners really that poor?

  6. Stewart was the first player dumped by RSL when JK took over. I hope John Ellinger starts picking the players in Dallas. So much for your defense.

  7. Our FO is not the well oiled machine that it can be.I get the impression that no one no knows what they’re doing in the public relations department.

It’s one of many balls that keeping being dropped by the same people. Lame.

  8. Really happy with the Wagner signing for RSL. The roster had NO natural LB (though Wingert has done really well). With Wingert out for 6 weeks we really need the help regardless, and this is about as good a pickup you can hope for.

  9. Main question about Chivas is what took them so long. I hope Angel is more eager to prove the doubters wrong than they were to announce his arrival. I haven’t seen much of chivas this year but Angel is well rested and if he can find it he could bring some goals which are sorely needed from an on and off offense.
