Seattle Sounders vs. Columbus Crew: Match Day Commentary

Two of the best teams in MLS square off today at CenturyLink Field as the Eastern Conference-leading Columbus Crew take the trip to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Sounders (4pm, Direct Kick).

The Crew boast a four-point lead atop the East, but face a confident Sounders side coming off an eye-opening 1-0 victory in Mexico against Monterrey in CONCACAF Champions League play. That win came just days after a 1-0 road win against FC Dallas.

  1. Agreed. I was at the game and am certainly no fan of Toledo but I thought he and the crew did an excellent job. Live I couldn’t tell for certain on either penalty call but on replay they both seem like the right call. The Hurtado deal looked like a whiff at first, but you could see the guy tending to his foot after the hit. Seemed legit.

  2. i thought Toledo and the officials did a solid job. There is no way you can fault Toledo for giving either penalty. (ball hit BOTH hands of the columbus defender, and Hurtado with a desperate swipe at Renteria). Kudos for Toledo in conversing with the assistant ref to award that goal that crossed the goal line.

  3. Another MLS game, another poor referring effort. Both penalties should not have been penalties, and that number 20 for columbus has gotten away with about three things that should have gotten him a yellow.
