Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

Two of the most impressive teams of the English Premier League's first week were Manchester City and Bolton, which both posted blowout wins to start the season.

We will find out just which of those fast starters is the truly legitimate one when they face off at the Reebok this morning in one of the day's most intriguing match-ups. Newly-acquired Sergio Aguero starred for City in his debut and will be watched closely to see if he can keep up the heroics.

On the MLS front, Sporting Kansas City and D.C. United square off in a crucial Eastern Conference showdown. A Sporting KC win would move them into second place in the East, while a D.C. victory would help them leapfrog New York and catch Philadelphia for third place in the East.

  1. I’m afraid I don’t understand your argument. I have never commented about how the first two weeks of the EPL season have been quite boring compared to previous years.

  2. J.Jones was on the bench for Schalke’s 4-2 win over Mainz. Dolo started for Hannover, who are up 1-0 over Hertha Berlin at the half.

  3. Actually, Anzhi players don’t live or train in Makhachkala. Mostly in and around Moscow and are flown into Makhachkala only for home games.

  4. Bedoya and Boca didn’t get their Scottish visas in time. As for Edu, he probably had a minor injury or maybe he was just given a rest.

  5. Exactly who in the SPL would qualify as a challenge, other than the people car-bombing players vehicles outside the stadium?

This is the SPL…after all. Challenge isn’t exactly readily available to Celtic/Rangers, generally.

Reason #238 why the SPL is a poor league and gets far too much credit for past decades quality.

  6. well, not much the keeper could have done about that second goal, but so far Jaaskelainen has looked shakey. Though I guess most keepers would against City.

  7. Bocanegra hasn’t secured a visa. Guessing edu was rotated after 90 min in thursday’s europa league. Not sure on bedoya.

Doubt this will be a trend. Motherwell wasn’t expected to be much of a challenge.

  8. There has been more drama and action in the La Liga strike then in the first two weeks of EPL matches.

What is happening to the EPL, it looks terrible so far this year.

  9. Seems credible in terms of a player that still needs development and the ability to pass.

Also seems credible in terms of Wenger wanting to sign a CB that can’t defend.

Actually, remembering Ream is 23 would qualify him as too old for Wenger’s taste….err…preference.

  10. I may not want him to be playing for the US national, simply due to the fact that I think there are better options than him, but I certainly want to see him succeed in his endeavors whatever they may be, not joy in his misfortunes.

  11. He’s won everything at the club level….. literary! Italian league and Cup as well as Super Cup, same as in Spain league, Cup and Super cup. European Super Cup and Champions League. Guess he could shoot for Europa?? Oh and 2 FIFA Club World Cups!

Time for him to get PAAAAIDD!

  12. So, apparently Samuel Eto’o signed with Russian club Anzhi and is set to be the highest paid footballer in the world at $29 million per year.

That’s $12 million more than Ronaldo and nearly double what the best player in the world, Messi, is being paid at $15 million.

Not a bad paycheck for a 30 year old. Have fun in the Russian league, though, especially with all of the violence in/around Makhachkala.

Over/under he doesn’t last more than a season and 1/2?

  13. I’ve seen Revolution and Eartuquakes games more exciting than this. The crowd cheers hard and the echo helps but it doesn’t even look or appear to have a lot of fans for an EPL game?

Now that Wolves scored they are getting loud? lol

Fulham needs to give the ball to Dempsey more, Johnson and Duff keep losing it in the final pass before getting to the goal box

I can’t get myp2p to work. Anyone know of any other sites?

  16. And Ricardo Clark watching his team’s Bundesliga 2 match from his sofa. As someone who never wants to see him in a USMNT uniform again, I find this development very agreeable.
