It figured to be a make-or-break year for Columbus Crew coach Robert Warzycha after the club opted to part ways with a number of veterans while turning to younger players and lesser-known commodities in hopes of staying competitive and rebuilding for the future at the same time.
After a slow start, the plan has unfolded quite nicely, and Columbus rewarded Warzycha with a new, multi-year contract as a result, the club announced on Thursday. Length and terms of the contract were not disclosed.
With the Crew sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with eight games to go in the regular season, Warzycha not only has a stable future in hand, but he has a strong case for MLS Coach of the Year honors as well.
What do you think about the job that Warzycha has done this season? Think the new contract is deserved?

Not sure I like this extension. I think the attendance problems at Crew stadium are directly related to how RW & BB handled the departure of the star players. Many non-renewals happened because people were not happy. Even with the 1st place in the standings it’s hard to get fans back when you lose them.
Well deserved
Your name could have been Michael but you just had to let everybody know.
those decisions were more Brian Bliss and less Robbie… basic point stands, though.
coach of the year, possibility, not coach of the week. crew played a decent match after the first 20 mins, seattle just finished better.
were talking coach of the year after Seattle shiitsmashes them 6-2??
He’s a good coach, but they should announce the contract after a win, not a blowout loss…
Lost some important pieces in Schelotto, Brian Carroll, plus some solid depth in Hejduk, Lenhart, and Brunner. Rogers was widely perceived as an underachiever. Then injuries to S. Francis and D O’Rourke, and now E. Gaven. And despite all that they are playing very well and have a well-rounded squad. He’s gotten good performances from Rogers and lots of the newer guys have exceeded expectations: Miranda, Gardner, Balchan, Anor, Duka, Meram. Credit to Warzycha and the FO.
he definitely deserves it, especially since everyone thought he was crazy for getting rid of so many veterans and leaders. They thought this would be a rebuilding year that would end up with not play off aspirations or anything.
Good for him, he’s earned it. Now if only the NYRB could take a page out his book and learn a thing or two.
