CONCACAF Champions League: Your Running Commentary

CCLLogo

The Seattle Sounders can cement a place in the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage with a win or a draw when they take on Comunicaciones in Guatemala. The game is a rematch of a 4-1 Sounders victory in the opening game of group play, when Michael Fucito scored twice while Seattle was down a man.

Toronto FC, meanwhile, is fighting for its life, needing to take at least a point off Pumas UNAM, a team that pummelled the Reds by a 4-0 scoreline in Mexico not even two weeks ago. A loss would all but eliminate TFC from knockout-stage contention, and they'll have to come up with a result without the suspended Torsten Frings, Terry Dunfield and Mikael Yourassowsky.

Here is the TV schedule for the night's games:

8 p.m. – Fox Soccer Channel/Galavision/CONCACAF.com stream – Toronto FC vs. Pumas UNAM

10 p.m. – Fox Soccer Channel/CONCACAF.com stream – Comunicaciones vs. Seattle Sounders

10 p.m. – Galavision – Monterrey vs. Herediano

If you will be watching any of tonight's CCL games, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.

  1. Galaxy better put Ricketts in goal. No more blunders by Saunders. Despite what the dorky US announcers say, Saunders couldn’t shine Ricketts’ boots.

  2. I don’t know about that. If he were Caribbean he might have been able to distinguish between different players with brown skin, or respectably pronounce a hispanic name.

  3. Boy that was a fun game. The Sounders really play composed soccer no matter where they play. What a difference between this season and several years ago where MLS teams couldn’t muster confidence, much less a difficult result away from home in the CCL.

I think a lot of MLS teams can play as well as the Sounders when they want. The Sounders have just really gelled and found their chemistry this season. HUGE credit to Sigi and his staff for what they have set out to accomplish and are on their way to accomplishing.

  4. Nice draw, Seattle.
Bonus Question: Who is the terrible British announcer on the Concacaf stream? Good grief, what a tool! He sounds like Gareth on the original BBC “Office.” Just a stream of dimwitted cliches. And that weird British ability to mispronounce EVERY name. Jaqua = Jacka? How?

  5. It was Communicaciones, but I agree. This was well officiated for once. Also, props to Communicaciones for not rolling all over the pitch for most of the game like a lot of Central American teams do.

  6. Roberto Garcia and his officiating crew get a thumbs up, even before the late equalizer. hope this is what we can see from the officials going forward in our region.

As one who disdains the BS the region is known for, it’s nice to feel an even hand from the zebras, on the road, in CONCACAF

  7. Why cant they stop the clock after every stoppage? it would be so much easier there would be no need to fake injuries or waste time. It is a simple change that would greatly improve the game

  8. United, TImbers and NSC MN fan here, so generally I root against the Sounders. But for my money, they are playing the best soccer in the league right now. They are very fun to watch. ANd kudos to them for showing up to play attacking soccer tonight. (Hey, gary smith, are you paying attention to how the pro’s do it?)

Rooting for that tying goal. Go Sounders!

  9. Zach Scott has been rubbish and Keller not much better. Cobi Jones and his Fox play by play man both say Parke is filling in for regular CB Ianni. Both misidentify Scott as he allows ball to bounce at 4 yard box. While Sounders make two attempts in front of goal, play by play guy couldn’t stop reading his announcement of future game. Amateur Hour on and off field.

  10. great chances for Seattle denied, then Comunicaciones beats the offsides trap at midfield and creates a breakaway opportunity converted with side-footed looping volley over Keller, who was by then well off his line of course

Seattle has looked bright though and hoping we see a high scoring game

bicycle kick from the spot by Ordonez I think hits the bar! rebound ripped just wide

    edit:
