The FC Dallas community suffered another loss of life on Tuesday when 18-year-old academy player Jose Perez was killed in a car accident while on the way to practice at San Jacinto College.

"Today is another very sad day for the entire FC Dallas community," Hunt Sports Group vice president Dan Hunt said. "The passing of Jose Perez is a tragedy that is hard to conceive. He was a fine young man with a very bright and promising future. Jose was a pleasure to be around both on and off the field and he will be greatly missed by all of us."

Perez was a former member of the U.S. U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Fla., and his tragic death comes just a week after former FC Dallas player and broadcaster Bobby Rhine, 35, passed away from a heart attack.

Here are a few more items from around MLS:

PHILADELPHIA INKS TAIT

Joe Tait had been training and trialing with the Philadelphia Union for a number of weeks, but the club finally signed the 21-year-old English centerback on Tuesday.

Tait was most recently with the Dayton Dutch Lions of USL Pro, and he appeared in two reserve matches and a friendly for the Union while on trial. He was the 2010 PDL Defender of the Year with the Baton Rouge Capitals. He also has professional experience in England's lower tiers, where he played before moving to the United States in 2010.

MCCARTHY DONE FOR THE SEASON

New England Revolution rookie midfielder Stephen McCarthy is out for the rest of the season after undergoing an arthroscopic labrum repair procedure on his left shoulder earlier this week.

McCarthy started 18 games in his first MLS season, scoring two goals. He is expected to miss the next three or four months while recovering but should be ready for the 2012 preseason.

SOUNDERS SIGN MEREDITH, LOSE SEAMON

The Seattle Sounders signed former Monmouth goalkeeper Bryan Meredith to add depth behind Kasey Keller and Josh Ford for the stretch run of the season.

With backup keeper Terry Boss out of the season with a concussion, the Sounders turned to Meredith, whom they drafted in the second round of this year's MLS SuperDraft but didn't sign until this week.

Meredith played for PDL side Kitsap Pumas this season and played against the Sounders during the U.S. Open Cup.

Seattle also placed reserve midfielder Mike Seamon on the disabled list with an ankle tendon injury, ending his season.
