Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution: Your Running Commentary

UNI_Primary_COL    NE_Primary_COL

With the postseason chase picking up steam, the Philadelphia Union will be looking for a return to their winning ways when they take on the New England Revolution at PPL Park (8 p.m., Galavision).

Zac MacMath is set to get the start in goal in place of the injured Faryd Mondragon, and the rookie will have to do his part to keep Revs' DP striker Milton Caraglio off the scoreboard in a crucial match for the Union's postseason hopes, which have dwindled a bit during the club's six-game winless stretch.

The last team the Union beat was New England, which is hoping to improve on its 1-7-5 road record while returning to the playing field for the first time in 17 days.

If you will be watching the match, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.

  1. I was at the game and I couldn’t believe that we would boo someone who was down. But we saw flops all night from NE so I think the drunk fans thought this was a flop too even after the stretcher came out. I think I saw Rafa Benitez in a Peter Nowak suit tonight. Can anyone remember the last time he played the same line up two games in a row? I’m glad the Union fought back but damn somethings gotta give. The D needs to get back to what it was early this summer. They need to keep their shape. Benitez needs to give every player near the 18 the green light to shoot and stop all this 2-3 touch shoot crap. Your letting the D and GK read you like a book.

  2. I’ll say it. The Philly “fans” who booed a concussed player didn’t deserve to see their team’s strong comeback. I trust that they were a minority among the overall good crowd.

  3. Seth: Dude you are dilusional if you think the USMNT has a player with all the elements like an Adu… Some people are either not futbol sabby or just plain out drinking Haterade.

Adu thinks everyone on the Philly team are clowns… Also considering that most players on the Union team have had more playing time than Adu, shows playing time is overrated.lol

Adu clearly the best Phily player. Keep benching him though, that way my little midget is ready and healthy to play for the USMNT. Keep that boy
    fresh, son!

  4. A 50% ADU is better than anything Philly has to offer. If a bench warmer Adu can make an impact in the USMNT, I think MLS in no biggie for the adventures of Adu. F$&k Nowak. 🙂

    Haters..geesh

  5. I’m not buying that Freddy would play as a false 9. Perhaps we just have different understandings of the term. I definitely agree he’d be playing higher up the pitch than Torres, under a main striker. But a false 9 (in my understanding, which could absolutely be flawed) is a player who occupies the space a main striker would but drops deep into midfield, causing havoc for the opposing centerbacks. Zonalmarking.net has a great article on the use of false 9’s. It’s a great site altogether.

  6. Man, it was tough to see. It definitely looked from his reaction like he was pushed, but the camera never gave a preview to him falling.

  7. LOL he just dribbles right out of bounds instead of passing to a wide open guy at the edge of the box.

This guy must be hated by his teammates.

  8. Benny’s in the best shape of his life seems to me, always his biggest drawback…fitness. interested to see how he would express himself in Klinsmann’s system if he gets the chance

Torres does a lot of good things this team needs. It is interesting watching Coach trying to find the right spot for him. One thing forever in Paco’s control is being a 90+ minute fit player. Do you think he is? Same b!tch about Benny for years.

Adu looks like a man to me out there

  9. Roger Torres is that jack*ss who shows up to drop ins and pick up games and then never passes while making stupid decision after stupid decision because he believes he is Pele.
