The United States men's national team has two friendlies in the next five days with Costa Rica and Belgium, but the identity of one if its next opponents may already be determined.

According to reports from Ecuador, the United States will host Ecuador in an Oct. 11 friendly in Connecticut. The proposed date falls in the Oct. 7-11 international-fixture window on the FIFA calendar, and the match would be the first one for the United States in Connecticut since a May, 2010, friendly against the Czech Republic at Rentschler Field prior to the World Cup.

The last time the two nations met was in March, 2007, when the United States won, 3-1, in Tampa, Fla., on the strength of a Landon Donovan hat trick.

What do you think of the potential friendly?

  1. I’d actually like to see a rotation of national team stadiums. 4 MLS SS stadiums for matches like US v Costa Rica and larger venues like New Meadowlands for US v Spain. Rotate the stadiums every two years. Sell packages etc.

  2. I thought Stanford Stadium hosted the San Jose Earthquakes vs. New York Red Bulls and from what I heard (I did not see the match due to me vacationing) the stadium was packed

  3. +1, our U-23 team needs to start scheduling friendlies in preparation for Olympic qualifying. And we need to appoint a coach, now that Klinsy has said he’s not doing it himself.

  4. husky stadium, which was also considered to host world cup games if our bid had won, has grass and holds about as many as century link. if they have a problem with the turf why not play there? it is a football field but you can schedule a game for a week uw plays an away game. also century link has put grass in for matches against EPL sides so who’s to say they wouldnt do the same for a marquee usmt matchup. its worth mentioning flying to seattle takes roughly the same amount of time from europe as a trip to la…and if you fly direct it actually takes less.

  6. Looks like the October 7 friendly is going to be against Honduras in Miami.

According to a poster in Big Soccer this was announced last night by the president of the Honduras FA.

  7. Mexico played Ecuador in Seattle in May with about 50,000 fans in attendance. Obviously, the pitch didn’t have anything to do with hosting.

  8. News Flash!! The United States of America is a pretty big country! That’s no excuse for having the east coast and Southern California (yeah, that’s the west coast) virtually being the sole representative venues of a USA team for this country!!
