Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

KyleBeckerman (ISIPhotos.com)

It's a relatively quiet Saturday in the soccer world on this Labor Day Weekend, but that doesn't mean there still aren't some tasty match-ups to help you get your soccer fix tonight.

Real Salt Lake takes on the Philadelphia Union in a pivotal match for both squads. RSL would normally be the heavy favorite at home, but missing several key players to international duty will level the playing field against a Union side that has struggled on the road all season.

If you're looking for some championship action, look no further than tonight's USL-Pro Championship game between Orlando City and Harrisburg City (7pm, Fox Soccer Channel). You'll want to give the match a look as the talent on both sides could help you catch a glimpse of some future MLS players.

If you will be watching tonight's soccer action (or want to talk about the handful of matches that took place earlier today, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Tonight's TV Schedule is after the jump):

  1. I drive out from NJ to see Harrisburg at least once a season typically. Lots of fun! Anyone without an MLS team should support their nearest USL side. (I also follow/support RBNY.)

  2. I’ve been wanting to see him ever since last years Milk Cup! Wasn’t he the one asked to go train with Tim H over at Everton after they won the M.Cup?

  3. We used to taunt the Vancuver bench, reminding the players that they were all going to lose their jobs the next year when Whitecaps joined MLS.

  4. Peter Novak running the team into the ground. You lose your star striker, so you go out and acquire Adu who starred against Mexico.

You have not won in 5 games, and your forwards rarely see the ball and there is no connection with your defense. Your decision? Keep Freddy Adu on the bench.

    Idiot.

  5. Just finished watching online the Railhawks/Tampa Rowdies from Cary, NC.

2:0 Railhawks. They are a class above all other teams in the league, Campos w/ 2 goals in the first half, Barbara sent off in the 2nd.

Rowdies didn’t play bad, they just got outclassed.

Railhawks should do just fine in MLS next season…wait, this is Don Garber world, pay to play. The 2nd worst team in NASL, the Montreal Impact, gets “promoted” to the MLS next season…MLS: promoting mediocrity 15 years and counting…

  6. In spite of the football field markings and a score line of 0-0 in 68th minute – the game is rather entertaining. Favored team Orlando City had their keeper red carded for taking down Harrison City forward. At least we know it goes to PK’s if neither side puts it away.

  7. What a let down to not have any games to watch today. With no other choices I tuned into the USL final. How is it possible they are playing a final on a field with football markings. It is so distracting and unfitting for a championship game….
