For the first time in a long time, neither FC Barcelona or Real Madrid is in first or second place in the Spanish First Division, something both Barca and Madrid will try to change with wins today.
Barcelona is currently sitting in fourth place after four matches, and faces a stiff test against Atletico Madrid today, while Real Madrid tries to climb out of seventh place after some recent disappointing results.
In England, Arsenal will try to halt its own slow start against a tough Bolton side, while Chelsea faces Swansea in what might wind up being a tougher test than people expect.
Tonight's slate of MLS matches feature a plethora of playoff race-deciding tilts, including New York-Portland and D.C. United-Real Salt Lake.

yes he is injured
Did Torres not play at all for Pachuca today? I never heard any calls for gringo nor did I see his number on the field and the game is about 80 minute in. In any case, he did not start. I am sort of surprised since I thought he had a decent game last week. Is he injured?
“… one of BB’s potentian assistants…”
Jonathan Bornstein? “is exaggerating” his resume.
Indeed. Being a poor man’s Cesc Fabregas is no shame. And if he’s a little tougher, he might be more of what Arsenal needs than Fabs.
Arteta is a good player. He really is a bargain-basement Cesc–and I don’t mean that negatively.
Eh, he’s 27. He could well be back on the upswing. That isn’t to say that he will reach his previous heights, but he’s far from ready for the glue factory.
“I read he was making $40 K a month So just under half a million. Not bad but a lot less than he was payed for coaching the Nats.”
I’m not sure that’s right. I looked at the USSF financial forms and he was making like 400k guaranteed (~36k per month), with performance bonuses.

Davis is probably the best American not to go to Europe.
Goal Cameron! off a Davis corner! yesssssssss
Houston brought just as many fans to Pizza Hut Park as FCD did
Positive sings from the Gunners. Arteta looks like he is taking command of that midfield. He adds a tough mindedness that I haven’t seen there for the Gunners since Viera. The center back duo also seemed much more in synch today. They came out at the half looking sharp and hungry even before the Bolton red card. (And I think Wolcott had a great chance of making it 2-0 if he’s not fouled.) Dare I say…they may be turning a corner?
No quarter is being given in the Barcelona game.
Barça 3 – Atletico 0 25mins in.
This is going to be a massacre.
*off
Thanks for the info. He did play left back in the Europa game (the LB Schulz was injured). According to the report from the game he did get beat once. The Stuttgart game it looked like he got a cut below his right eye.
The funny thing is that last week when I was trying to find why he was on the bench, Hannover’s website listed him as the probable starter (So könnten sie spielen) for the Dortmund game and then he didn’t start.
Hoping he’s back of the bench soon.
He has done some ridiculous or petulant things, but I’d say fewer than his many detractors will insinuate.
He is only 21 years old and also had to endure all manner of racist b.s. while playing in Italy and now is trying to work hard (Mancini says so himself) and make the first team at City, but no one gives him a chance to redeem himself.
The second he steps on the pitch, the commentators start to talk about his attitude and pick apart every gesture and facial expression. I see people get on him for not celebrating after goals, as if that points to some kind of personality flaw.
I don’t deny that he still could grow up a bit, but I take issue with all the knee-jerk reactions and reliance on tired conventional wisdom about him. Give the kid a chance.
well done
They both should have been fined by MLS =P lol
