USMNT to face Ecuador at Red Bull Arena on Oct. 11

RedBullArena

The U.S. men's national team will play its first game at Red Bull Arena on Oct. 11 when the Americans take on Ecuador in a friendly in Harrison.

The match will be the United States second match during the October international fixture window, with the Americans taking on Honduras in Miami on Oct. 8th.

The United States will be facing Ecuador for the first time since March 25, 2007, when Landon Donovan scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 USA victory.

The October friendlies are expected to feature a foreign-based roster. It remains to be seen what part MLS players will play considering MLS teams will be in the thick of the playoff stretch. November international fixture dates seem the most likely to include a full contingent of players from both MLS and Europe.

What do you think of this news? Excited about the idea of the national team playing at Red Bull Arena? Will you be attending?

  1. One team could win, it’s not USMNT vs. the Red Bulls.

That would be an assured draw, followed by Backe’s press conference where he says how pleased he is with how the Red Bulls came back in the second half, “in a way.”

  2. I love watching these games, but now there’s a November international date, too? Seems like too many in a row, with September, October and November dates. Let the players stay with one team for a while.

  3. Brek shea is not a forward, he’s a wingers. That’s like saying ashley young is a forwad. So you would pair two player who are wingers up top as strikers when you have actual strikers on roster? Dumbfounded!! I know who plays FIFA… All hail my Ashley Young, Nani forward tandem of excellence. Wayne Rooney who LOL.

  4. Guess I misread the poster above me. I thought he said Seattle was closer to Europe than it was to socal. Not distances from Seattle to Europe and la to Europe.

  5. ya im pretty sure they already announced this for the 10/14 in Hartford??? either way its good to get a US game in RB Arena, even tho NY gets enough attention!

  6. I hope Juan Agudelo will start since it will be played in NY.

I hope they pair him with either Clint Dempsey, Brek Shea or Landon Donovan at forward. That would be sweet.

  7. Ecuador will win so you’ll have the best of both worlds. At least one US MNT fan will have something to celebrate when Klinsi loses another one for the USA. Have a good time

  8. agreed. i’m from the southeast, and i’ve never had a game to go to within 9 hours of me. most are more like 25 hours away. that’s absurd

  10. They just played a friendly in Philly last month, so no. Here’s your answer “It’s easy for foreign based players to get to the games.” 😐

  11. What with the schedule 3 days after first game? can’t they do week later?….

(SBI-It’s an international fixture window, enough time to play two games. A week later and you can’t call up foreign-based players because clubs aren’t obligated to release players.)

  12. well we should see benny feilhaber in camp considering theres no chance the revolution are going to make the playoffs. agudelo might be an option too with nyrb on the outside looking in right now

  13. It is obnoxious, though it’s not too hard to fault them. CLink’s turf is atrocious right now and Jeld-Wen’s dimensions are probably too small. But at this point I’d consider traveling to Utah or Northern California for a game.
