Sporting Kansas City has been no stranger to late-game heroics, and the club once again relied on that to earn a result.
Sporting earned a dramatic 1-1 victory with the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday night in a game that saw two late goals scored within seconds of each other.
Chris Wondolowski looked to have scored the winner for San Jose when he found the back of the net for the 12th time this season in the 85th minute. But that wasn't the case, as on the ensuing kickoff rookie C.J. Sapong released Teal Bunbury through on goal before the U.S. international rifled a shot home. The goal was Bunbury's eighth of the year.
The result keeps Sporting Kansas City atop the Eastern Conference with 45 points with two games to left to play in the season.
What do you think of Sporting Kansas City's draw with the Earthquakes? Wondering how San Jose let this one get away? Impressed by Bunbury's goal?

Espinoza, Julio Caesar, Zusi, Jeferson, Peterson Joseph, and Davy Arnaud.. The midfield is stacked.. If forwards put their finishing boots on more than every 4 games, SKC would have already clinched the East. Midfield has been great since the 10 game road trek at the beginning of the season
Bunbury is a turnover machine, he has a horrible first touch (I still think he has a bright future with the nats, he just has a lot to work on). I’d like to see Sapong brought in to camp. He is so strong, rarely gives up the ball, and is good with the ball at his feet…he just needs to start putting them in the net with more frequency.
He has more goals than Agudelo, and doesnt turn over the ball as much. Would like to see him get some playing time with the Nats.
SKC needs a stronger midfield if they want to compete with the big boys in the playoffs
“Sporting earned a dramatic 1-1 victory”
err…
If it were Bob Bradley there would be a line out the door…
Wondo was right to be pissed at his team for that goal. 2 players beat 8 just seconds after the restart. i desperately want to blame the coach for this too, but not sure how.
Cap him now, Bobbbbbbb!!!!1
The best part would be recreating Wondo’s “u mad bro?” face right after Bunbury struck. SKC has the most exciting group of forwards in MLS, they just need to hit this level a little more often during a match.
any idea if he’ll recreate the goal sequence using bobbleheads again?
