Any plans that FC Dallas fans might have had for David Ferreira to make his return in the postseason should be put on hold.
Ferreira, last year's MLS MVP, has been out since breaking his ankle in an April 23 victory at Vancouver. He has been working his way back to fitness but is unlikely to suit up for FCD during the postseason, according to FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman.
"David will be more than likely not be available," Hyndman said. "The reason I say that is that he's only 65-to-75 percent and yet to train in competitive games, so we're doing a lot of caution with him.
"It looks like he's staring to get his confidence, but if he came back for New York he wouldn't be the same player he was before he got hurt. If he gets reinjured, then it'll be a real crime on my part."
Ferreira's original injury timeline was a three-month layoff following the challenge from Whitecaps defender Jonathan Leathers that broke his ankle in two places.
That timeline got extended to the point that he couldn't return prior to the end of the season, and FCD appears to be exerting every possible precaution to ensure that its key central midfielder remains healthy for the long haul.
Hyndman did leave open the slight possibility that if FC Dallas reached next month's final that Ferreira might be able to play some part, but that seems like an iffy proposition at best.
