Chelsea has called Stamford Bridge home since 1905, but it could be looking to secure a new place to play after recent actions by the club's executives.
The club does not own the pitch and stands at the stadium, which are instead have been owned by the Chelsea Pitch Owners since 1993 in an effort to make sure that the grounds wouldn't be bought by property developers, according to the BBC.
The club's chairman and chief executive have submitted bids to the shareholders to buy back what the club doesn't own, which is a necessary step for the team to be able to go forward on potentially seeking a new stadium. The BBC reports that the club would guarantee to not move more than three miles away from the current stadium site if it were to relocate in the next nine years.
Here are a few more stories from around the soccer world:
INIESTA RETURNING TO ACTION
Barcelona will get integral midfielder Andres Iniesta back from injury after he was cleared to play for the first time since tearing his hamstring against AC Milan last month.
While his return helps Barcelona, it won't mean anything for the Spanish national team, which will play without the World Cup-clinching goal scorer in the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Scotland.
RODWELL RED OVERTURNED
Everton has won an appeal to have the red card given to Jack Rodwell in the Toffees' 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Saturday overturned.
Rodwell was given a red card by referee Martin Atkinson after appearing to go through Liverpool's Luis Suarez on a challenge, but replays show that Rodwell made a clean slide tackle on the ball, and his momentum took his back leg into Suarez, who sold the call with an overdramatic reaction.
Rodwell will not have to sit out for the next three matches as a result.
CELTIC CAPTAIN OUT
It has been a season of struggle for Scottish giant Celtic FC, and it's not getting an easier after word that the club's captain, midfielder Scott Brown, will have to miss the next 10 weeks with an ankle injury.
Brown requires surgery that will keep him out through December, and by that point, Celtic could be facing too steep a mountain to climb. The club already trails rival Rangers (and its American trio of Carlos Bocanegra, Maurice Edu and Alejandro Bedoya) by 10 points in the Scottish Premier League table after the opening months of the season.

What do you make of the Chelsea stadium situation? What does Iniesta's return mean for Barcelona and the rest of La Liga? What did you think of the red card given to Rodwell? Do you see anybody catching Rangers in the SPL this year?

You have really mastered the football jargon and the internet writing style. Well done. It almost reads like English.
Wow… sad for Shea if this is true. I read the Brit tabs, and Shea is utterly unready. Can’t think of a worse outcome for him–he needs at least another 2-3 seasons in premium (non-PL) leagues before he’s ready for the top tier in Europe. Here’s to hoping they don’t pick him up way to damn early. Can you imagine Donovan going to Europe after his first good season in San Jose???
probably not a popular idea but Chelsea should just play games at Wembly. At least some of the bigger games.
Or just build massive stadiums across london and figure it out later…
Thanks for that news. Exciting!!!!! I was skeptical of your post, but after checking it out, there are indeed news stories saying Man U, Man City and Chelsea are hot on Shea. I have felt since his great showing against Mexico that he would be going in January. I think he should do it–take the plunge. He is at the age the good clubs are looking for. Maybe Shea has what it takes to be the first American global star and if he sticks around the MLS he will not develop his talent to its fullest and if he waits too long it will never happen. I see him going in January at a minimum of 8-10 million euros. This makes me more excited than ever to see what Shea does against Honduras and Ecuador. Hope he kicks bu**.
Here is a really nice piece I found on Shea with some good video. This piece says that FC Bayern and Dortmund also are looking at Shea and the writer talks about how it would be a smart marketing move to put an American at Chelsea. I would love to see Shea at Chelsea playing with Fernando Torres and under a young dynamic genius like Coach AVB.

They won’t train him up. The big boys do this often. THey buy up young talent and send them off on loan to be built up. But this way they secure the future potential.
Um that was a B squad 4-5 years ago. None of them are within a fart’s sniff of the NT anymore
Daily Star
Wow. I love Shea but I don’t think he’s anywhere near the level needed to even sniff PT at one of those teams. And I don’t think they’re going to spend time trying to develop him. This is probably not true.
I think Brek’s best bet is to continue to develop here in MLS for a few years where he is doing great.
Man I hope not. Not a fan of the SPL. Seems to be on a steady decline.
It would be a great way to go. SPL isn’t that much above the standard of play in MLS. Several Yanks could be stars there. Even our B NT squad like Califf, Ching, Hejduk, Marshall would be standouts.
Shea to Chelsea seems unlikely, but…Here’s hoping that Celtic follows Rangers plan and signs a bunch of Americans to their roster. Their strategy of signing third division Euros clearly isn’t working. In fact, I’ll start that rumor right now (you’re welcome SBI!):
Unidentified tabloids report: Celtic looking to sign Brek Shea, Omar Gonzalez, and Juan Agudelo! SBI readers, share your thoughts!
I see a lot of mock-ups for redevelopment around Battersea. Where would Chelsea be thinking of building the stadium? Would they take down the actual power station and build it there? It would make for a remarkable setting.
Gee, is the US Open Cup on tonight or are you ignoring it, Ives?
Which british tabloid?
May just be tabloid fodder, but a variety of smaller British papers are running the story that United and Chelsea are trying to sign Brek Shea.
Glad that Ghost Face will be back for FCB. With Cesc’s recent knock my Giants were looking a little suspect with a lack of creativity, but all will be well once Xaviesta is back in full effect.
British tabloid, “Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are locked in a battle to sign American sensation Brek Shea.”
If Chelsea can build a stadium at the Battersea Power Station it would be one of the more iconic stadiums in the world.
