If the Colorado Rapids entered their game against FC Dallas hoping to close the gap in the standings between the two teams, it was a mission accomplished.
Colorado defeated FC Dallas 1-0 at Dicks Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night on a headed goal from Drew Moor in the first half.
Scoring in a second consecutive game, Moor got on the end of a Sanna Nyassi corner kick in the 25th minute to give the Rapids a victory that brought them within one point of fourth-place FC Dallas in the Western Conference standings. The victory also helped provide a sorely-needed cushion between the Rapids and the Eastern Conference playoff contenders.
Brek Shea helped the Hoops outshoot the hosts 11-8, but FC Dallas was unable to find an equalizer as Matt Pickens recorded his seventh shutout of the year to give the Rapids 45 points on the year.
The win improved the Rapids to 11-9-12 on the season while dropping struggling Dallas to 13-11-7. Dallas has not won a game across all competitions since Aug. 27.

FCD finally starting miss Ferreira
I was at the game and was impressed with the Rapid’s tactics; smothering the Dallas attack and limiting Shea’s touches on the ball. It was a well coached game.
That’s quite the deafening silence coming from the coaching office in Seattle, about now…
It was not a pretty game but it was a great, gritty win for the Rapids. We should be able to take full points from Vancouver, which will mean that our game against RSL will be about jockeying for wild-card position and a (potentially) easier play-in game for the playoffs.
This victory over Dallas also makes it more possible that we could commit full resources to the game against Santos.
