Kasey Keller won't be the only Seattle Sounders player with an end-of-season award this year.

Mauro Rosales won the MLS Newcomer of the Year award on Tuesday, beating out a class of more than 80 players that made the jump to MLS from leagues abroad this past year. Rosales won 28.42 percent of the club votes, 35.98 of the media votes and 20.75 of the player votes.

New York Red Bulls' Luke Rodgers finished second, while Eric Hassli of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon and Sporting Kansas City's Omar Bravo finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

A former Argentine international who joined the Sounders from Argentine heavyweight River Plate in March, Rosales scored five goals and had a club-record 13 assists in 26 league games this season. He was part of the reason why Seattle had the most potent offense, with the Sounders scoring 56 goals this season.

"This is an award I share with my teammates because without them we could not be so successful," said Rosales in a press release. "It's been a great season and I am honored by this vote of the media, as well as players and executives of other clubs. I would like thank everyone in the Sounders family-my fellow players, the coaches, staff and, of course, the fans."

  1. Probably would have been the difference in the RSL/Seattle match up. Some day the league will do a better job of protecting the playmakers.
