The U.S. men's national team will face its toughest test of the new Jurgen Klinsmann era in Paris today as the Americans take on France (2:45pm, ESPN2).

The United States returns to action with a pair of friendlies in Europe, starting with today's friendly in France and ending with a World Cup 2010 rematch against Slovenia on Tuesday.

The French are expected to trot out an experimental side to face the Americans, though it will still be a strong opponent that will be sure to test the U.S. team Klinsmann settles on.

SBI will be providing live commentary on today's match so please feel free to follow the action here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. He just said that Ream could have and likely would have been beat just as easily by that ball but would have at least made some nice passes.

    I agree 100%

But this proves we need someone else altogether in the mix

  2. stats? I used my eyes to observe the ‘friendly’ and its current form

and now it’s ‘the US overall is a poor side?” man, that is an outright apology

  3. I’m not drinking kool-aid and don’t own any rose colored glasses. I believe it’s going to get worse before it gets better because the despite the occassional flashes of brilliance, the US overall is a poor side. I think Klinsmann can help straighten that out but it’s going to take time and 6 games with 6 short training camps is not going to transform them.

I want the team to win games, but I’m expecing a year+ transition time. People who are concerned with stats on friendlies are the same people rushing to the stores to buy Manchester City tops.

  4. whatever you say, man

and i am not howling for a sacking–true hyperbole from you–just assessing the situation sans the rose colored glasses and kool aid

    cheers

  5. I’m not apologizing. I can give a damn about ‘seasons’ of friendlies. I care about qualification and whatever cup tournaments come about.

Friendlies are about experimentation and assessing what you have, and I’d rather do that against teams that are worth a damn and are actually tough. In all honestly I’d rather see them lose now and learn from mistakes so when they finally go into the real thing they know what to expect.

It’s absurd to start howling for Klinsmann sacking over some friendlies.

  6. Also, Herculez Gomez said he was the best player on the field for either team. And others on Twitter said the French announcers were praising his superb technique.
But you know more than all those people I’m sure…

  7. I actually agree with whoever said bring in Adu. I’ve been saying it for a while. Also, I would have left Shea in, put in Johnson where Williams was, and moved Williams to Edu’s spot. Edu did nothing. WE did nothing. If Jurgens mantra has been possession and offense, he’s failing. After 6 games we should at least be seeing something more than what we saw today. I have faith in the guy, but it pisses me off that nothing is happening. You can’t preach patience to the choir forever.

  8. Uh, yes I remember that and it was through virtual divine intervention we survived the group stage of the Confederations Cup. Had Egypt and Italy not had it’s meltdown, we would have gone home packing and Bradley would have been out sooner.

  9. Wow, congradulations on finding a spellin mistake but it doesnt take away from the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about. Jozy is miles ahead of Agudelo, love the kid but its a joke if you think he deserves a starting spot.
